THURSDAY RUNDOWN: DOUG DIRKS, JETS, RUSH & MORE!
We got deep into the sports talk with some of the industry’s greats on Episode #741 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Thursday live from Grey Eagle Resort & Casino! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont got things going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers (are the Oilers for real?), 2) Detroit fires its 51-year Zamboni driver for public urination, 3) The Raptors are down 0-3 to the 76ers, 4) The Blue Jays beat Boston 6-1 and are back atop the AL East, 5) Tom Renney retires as Hockey Canada boss, 6A) Deebo Samuel requests a trade from the 49ers and 6B) Junior hockey playoff stuff!
- Rod’s known Tom Renney for nearly 30 years going back to the WHL and World Junior days and told many stories from back in the day, including the 1999 World Juniors in Winnipeg where Tom was Canada’s head coach. RP said Winnipeg Arena was the loudest venue he’s ever experienced which spawned a discussion with viewers over what’s the loudest they’ve ever witnessed? It was a fun, viewer-engaging chat. Seattle’s Kingdome, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena and Toronto’s Skydome came up.
- Saskatchewn Rush rookie forward and first round pick Marshall Powless joined the show to preview Saturday’s massive home clash with San Diego, being a role model for First Nations youth, his lacrosse career and much more.
- Legendary CBC broadcaster Doug Dirks joined the show in Hour 2 and it was simply an outstanding visit. Dirks has worked the Olympics, Hockey Night In Canada, CFL On CBC and much, much more and the pair regaled the viewers with stories. The guys previewed the Stanley Cup Playoffs, potential match-ups, and also got into a CFL discussion.
- Sportsnet Winnipeg’s Sean Reynolds joined the show to discuss where things went wrong with the NHL’s Jets this season, what changes may be in store, and hyped up the playoffs for the Manitoba Moose and Winnipeg ICE.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should the 49ers trade Deebo Samuel? At press time 57% of respondents said yes.
- Wednesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Ben Hebert. Thursday’s was Doug Dirks.
