THURSDAY COMMENTARY – GERARD’S BEST LIFE

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

LET’S PAUSE FOR A MINUTE AND EXAMINE THE NEW YORK RANGERS.

OF COURSE YOU’RE FOLLOWING THE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS; SASKATCHEWAN IS A HOCKEY PROVINCE AFTER ALL.

AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT THE RANGERS OPENED THE NHL’S EASTERN CONFERENCE FINAL AT HOME AGAINST TAMPA BAY BY WHIPPING THE LIGHTNING’S BUTTS 6-2.

YOU KNOW RIDER GREAT MATT DOMINGUEZ SAID IT BEST WHEN HE ONCE SAID, “REGULAR SEASON MAKES ALL STARS. THE PLAYOFFS MAKE LEGENDS.”

AND THROUGH THESE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS, A 22-YEAR OLD NEW YORK FORWARD NAMED FILIP CHYTIL IS BECOMING A HOUSEHOLD NAME.

LAST NIGHT HE BURIED HIS 6TH AND 7TH CAREER PLAYOFF GOALS AND IN RANGERS HISTORY, ONLY FOUR GUYS HAVE SCORED MORE BEFORE THE AGE OF 23. BY NAME, THEY ARE ALEXEI KOVALEV, RON DUGUAY, DON MALONEY AND DON MURDOCH.

BUT WHAT I’D LIKE TO POINT OUT IS LAST YEAR THE RANGERS ABSOLUTELY CLEANED HOUSE. THEY FIRED PRESIDENT JOHN DAVIDSON, GM JEFF GORTON AND HEAD COACH DAVID QUINN.

MSG PRESIDENT JAMES DOLAN HAD SEEN ENOUGH FROM THE PERENIALLY UNDER-ACHIEVING RANGERS AND WIPED THE SLATE CLEAN. (VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT THE EDMONTON ELKS DID THIS WINTER AFTER A LAST-PLACE FINISH).

HIRED AS REPLACEMENTS WERE GM CHRIS DRURY AND HEAD COACH GERARD GALLANT.

OH THERE ARE SO MANY LIFE LESSONS TO BE LEARNED THROUGH SPORTS IF YOU JUST WANT TO TAKE A MINUTE TO PAY ATTENTION.

GERARD GALLANT WAS INEXPLICABLY FIRED BY THE VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS AFTER LEADING THEM TO THE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS IN YEAR 1.

NOW HERE HE IS LEADING THE RANGERS TO THE CUP WHILE THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS ARE WATCHING THE PLAYOFFS ON TV.

NOW LAS VEGAS IS THE VERY LAST THING ON GALLANT’S MIND. GERARD IS LIVING HIS BEST LIFE AND NOT LOOKING BACK.

OH, THERE IS SO MUCH PLEASURE TO BE FOUND IN THAT.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

Does anyone remember Gerard Gallant the player? There was a rubarb between Carolina/New York at the end of the game. Rod Brind’amour should be in the Hall of Fame. Gerry Gallant played for Detroit in the old Chuck Norris division. Rod would want no piece of Gallant.

Florida and Vegas didnt work out. A Stanley Cup is a Stanley Cup. Win it in certain towns you are immortal.

They are a very good team.
