OIL KINGS OFF TO MEMORIAL CUP, OHL FINAL GOING TO GAME 7
EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oil Kings are Western Hockey League champions – and Memorial Cup bound – following a series-clinching 2-0 victory over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds on Monday night at Rogers Place.
Jakub Demek and Kaiden Guhle provided the offence and Sebastian Cossa supplied shutout netminding as Edmonton won the best-of-seven WHL championship series 4-2. Jake Neighbours chipped in with two assists.
The Oil Kings will represent the WHL in the 102nd Memorial Cup championship, which runs June 20-29 in Saint John, N.B.
WINDSOR, Ont. – The Windsor Spitfires, trying to shake off back-to-back one-goal losses and stay alive in their Ontario Hockey League championship series, did just that Monday with a 5-2 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs.
The teams were tied 1-1 after one period Monday , and Windsor took a 3-2 lead into the final frame. Hamilton outshot Windsor29-26.
The winner of Wednesday’s showdown will represent the OHL in the Memorial Cup championship.
A guy should buy all the Oil Kings merchandise you can because it’s only a matter of time before some busy body bitches about their name and demands they be called the Edmonton Solar Screens or Edmonton Windmills.
