TUESDAY COMMENTARY – THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
IT’S TUESDAY AND THAT MEANS ANOTHER EDITON OF THE GOOD, THE GREAT AND THE UGLY!
FIRST, THE GOOD: IT’S THE TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING WHALLOPING THE COLORADO AVALANCHE 6-2 MONDAY NIGHT TO CUT COLORADO’S LEAD IN THE STANLEY CUP FINAL TO 2-1.
THIS IS GOOD BECAUSE IT’S MADE THIS THING A SERIES, AND REPRESENTS THE 23RD STRAIGHT SEASON THE NHL HASN’T HAD A SWEEP IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP BEST-OF-7. THE LONGEST THE NBA AND MLB HAVE GONE WITHOUT A SWEEP IS JUST 12 YEARS.
IT’S ALSO THE HIGHEST-SCORING STANLEY CUP FINAL SINCE 1982 AND EACH GAME HAS FEATURED SEVEN OR MORE GOALS.
WE CAN RELAX THIS SUMMER, BECAUSE THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE NHL GAME.
SECOND, THE GREAT: I GOTTA SAY IT WAS WHAT WENT DOWN AT MONDAY’S ROCKY MOUNTAIN ROTARY CELEBRITY GOLF CLASSIC HERE IN CALGARY.
I MEAN, IT WAS SMILES ALL AROUND AS SPORTS AND BUSINESS PEOPLE CONVENED IN THIS WAY FOR THE FIRST TIME POST-PANDEMIC.
I WAS SO HAPPY TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME WITH LANNY MCDONALD, THEO FLEURY AND JORDAN EBERLE AND HAPPIER TO REPORT THAT ALL IS GOOD WITH THEM.
PERHAPS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY WAS STAMPEDERS QUARTERBACK BO LEVI MITCHELL REFUSING TO COME ON THE RP SHOW – AGAIN – YET, AS MC FOR THE BANQUET, I SINGLED BO OUT FOR CALGARY’S COMEBACK WIN AT HAMILTON AND THANKED HIM FOR SPENDING HIS DAY OFF WITH US.
THE CROWD ROARED!
WHY DO THEY ALWAYS GIVE ME A MIC?
AND LASTLY, THE UGLY: THE ROUGHRIDERS WORST FEARS WERE REALIZED WHEN CENTRE DAN CLARK ANNOUNCED ON TWITTER THAT HE’S SUFFERED A BROKEN LEG.
THE SEASON HASN’T GONE UP IN SMOKE FOR THE RIDERS BUT I’M CERTAIN IT HAS FOR THE VETERAN ANCHOR OF THE OFFENSIVE LINE, AND REGINA PRODUCT.
THERE IS NO SILVER LINING IN THIS ONE, BUT AT LEAST IT HAPPENED EARLY ENOUGH THAT SASKATCHEWAN CAN MAKE THE NEEDED ADJUSTMENTS.
IMAGINE IF THIS HAPPENED IN THE PLAYOFFS!
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY
