MONDAY RUNDOWN: MONDAY NIGHT CFL FOOTBALL & LOTS OF NHL TALK!

We kicked off our 14th week at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino on Monday with Episode #791 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got things going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Rick Bowness is the newest head coach of the Winnipeg Jets, 2) The USFL championship game saw Birmingham beat Philadelphia 33-30. What’s next for the league?, 3) CFL Week 4 buzz and Monday Night Football between the Bombers and Argos on TSN, 4) The Blue Jays deal with a tragedy, 5) NHL free agency and this week’s NHL Draft, and 6) Moose’s Wimbledon update.
  • The guys went all through the CFL’s Week 4 games including the emergence of Edmonton QB Tre Ford, the continued stellar play of BC QB Nathan Rourke, the Stamps bye week and the inexplicable heat on Rider QB Cody Fajardo.
  • TSN Montreal’s John Lu joined the show to preview this week’s NHL Draft at Bell Centre. John reported tickets for the event are sold-out but the Canadiens remain tight-lipped over who they’ll select with the #1 pick. Lu said Habs fans heavily want Kingston forward Shane Wright, and compared it to the 1980 Draft when the team chose Doug Wickenheiser over hometowner Denis Savard. John also reported the status of Carey Price is still undecided but doesn’t think Montreal will take a goalie in the Draft. Regarding the Alouettes, John admitted a quarterback controversy is playing out and with the Alouettes on a bye, the media’s eager to see who will take the first team reps next week.
  • In Hour 2 we were joined by Sportsnet Flames host Ryan Leslie who said he can’t get over how Calgary has embraced The RP Show, and vice versa. The guys went deep into NHL free agency talk and Leslie feels Flames star Johnny Gaudreau likely has his mind made up regarding where he’ll sign, but isn’t telling anybody. Ryan also said it’s prudent for the Oilers to be kicking tires on pending free agent goaltender Jack Campbell. It was a wide-ranging visit and Ryan stayed for 40 minutes.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Is the Rick Bowness hiring good for the Jets? At press time 65% of respondents said yes.
  • Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Jabari Arthur. Monday’s Rockstar was Ryan Leslie!
  • See you at 12 pm ET on Tuesday as we’ll be broadcasting live from the rodeo arena at Cody Snyder’s Bullbustin’ event at Grey Eagle.
