TUESDAY COMMENTARY – THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
IT’S TUESDAY AND THAT MEANS ANOTHER EDITION OF THE GOOD, THE GREAT & THE UGLY!
FIRST THE GOOD: IF YOU’RE A LEAFS FAN, YOU SHOULD BE FEELING PRETTY GOOD ABOUT TORONTO ACQUIRING VETERAN GOALIE MATT MURRAY ON MONDAY, AND NOT HAVING TO GIVE UP A TON FOR HIM TO OTTAWA.
IS IT JUST ME, OR IS THIS THE MOST INTERESTING FREE AGENCY PERIOD IN THE NHL YEARS? MAYBE IT’S BECAUSE I’M JUST PAYING FAR MORE ATTENTION TO IT THAN EVER BEFORE, BUT I’M LOVING IT.
NEXT, THE GREAT: AS A FAN, YOU’RE PROBABLY NOT ON EITHER THE SIDE OF THE PLAYERS OR THE OWNERS & GMS. YOU JUST WANT TO WATCH THE GAMES.
BUT I’VE ALWAYS BEEN PRO-PLAYER SO TO WATCH THESE GOINGS-ON IN THE NHL IN JULY AND SEE THE POWER SWING TO THE PLAYERS – EVEN IF FOR ONLY A MONTH – IS FUN TO WATCH.
THERE ARE MORE TEAMS WHO NEED GOALIES THAN THERE ARE GOALIES AVAILABLE SO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS; THE VALUE OF THE GOALIE MARKET HAS GONE THROUGH THE ROOF.
RIGHT NOW JACK CAMPBELL AND DARCY KUEMPER HAVE ALL THE POWER, AND THEY’VE GOT EDMONTON, WASHINGTON, TORONTO AND EVEN SOME OTHER TEAMS DANCING.
FORTUNATELY FOR THE TEAMS, COLORADO PROVED THIS YEAR YOU CAN WIN A STANLEY CUP WITH JUST ADEQUATE GOALTENDING.
PROFUSE APOLOGIES TO THE KUEMPER FAMILY, BUT I’M SURE THEY’LL BE OKAY.
AND LASTLY, THE UGLY: THIS GARRETT MARINO SITUATION IN THE CFL IS ONE THE LEAGUE WOULD SURELY LIKE TO AVOID.
THE ROUGHRIDERS DEFENSIVE LINEMAN WAS SUSPENDED FOR FOUR GAMES ON MONDAY – THE HARSHEST SUSPENSION THE CFL’S EVER HANDED DOWN – FOR TAKING OUT OTTAWA QUARTERBACK JEREMIAH MASOLI AT THE KNEES THE OTHER NIGHT, AND MAKING COMMENTS ABOUT MASOLI’S HERITAGE (UH … ISN’T THAT RACISM?).
NOW YOU’VE GOT HEAD COACH CRAIG DICKENSON TRIPPING ALL OVER HIMSELF WITH COMMENTS ABOUT MARINO, WHICH CRAIG DESERVES BETTER THAN HAVING TO DO.
IT’S JUST UGLY NO MATTER HOW YOU SLICE IT BUT AS WAS NOTED HERE YESTERDAY, THE RIDERS KNOW EXACTLY WHO MARINO IS AND HAVE HIM ON THE TEAM ANYWAY.
AND IF THEY WIN A GREY CUP WITH HIM ON THE ROSTER, I DON’T THINK YOU’LL CARE ALL THAT MUCH EITHER.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm ET & 10 pm PT on Game+ TV across Canada and the USA. Call your cable provider for details. You can also watch on YouTube Live or listen 24/7 at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive)
Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Craig Dickenson general manager Jeremy O’Day are just as responsible for the Marino incident as is the player. Khari Jones was fired in Montreal with the Alouettes for a undisciplined team, frankly … the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football team in more dire straits with their unruly team discipline.
FACT; Slowly but surely fans of the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders Football team are walking away, see attendance. The on field product now takes a arduous turn for the worse as unacceptable racism rears itself onto the field of play by a team roster player. Team discipline has been percolating under head coach Craig Dickenson gm Jeremy O’Day, President Carig Reynolds since the day Dickenson was installed as head coach and its now front and center and not being addressed by the organization. This “so called professional sports franchise” is taking a big hit to it’s reputation and that’s not conducive… Read more »
