WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: FREE AGENT FRENZY AND DEAL OR NO DEAL!

It was the biggest day of the week in sports and we had on-the-spot analysis on Wednesday’s Episode #798 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Johnny Gaudreau is leaving the Flames and Calgary is in mourning, 2) Other NHL free agent moves, 3) Week 6 CFL preview, 4) Deal or No Deal where the hosts take or refuse Bet Regal’s CFL betting lines – Edmonton at Montreal (-8), Calgary at Winnipeg (-3.5), Saskatchewan (-3.5) vs Toronto, and Ottawa at Hamilton (-8), 5) The Blue Jays beat Philadelphia 4-3 but fire manager Charlie Montoyo, and 6) In the CEBL, Hamilton downs Saskatchewan 81-74.
  • NHL super pest, podcaster and author Matthew Barnaby joined the show for free agency analysis and explained in the case of Johnny Gaudreau, American players don’t covet playing in Canadian markets. The guys went all through Wednesday’s moves as they happened.

  • In Hour 2 we were joined by Stanley Cup champion and NHL vet Tim Hunter at Grey Eagle Casino for a 40-minute NHL chat. Tim gave his thoughts on the Gaudreau decision but feels the Flames will still be a very good team, and have plenty of salary cap room to work with. Hunter also answered several viewer questions and told some behind-the-scenes stories of the 1994 Stanley Cup Final between his Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers. Tim left with some kind words saying, “The Flames are a big family and we’re loving having you in Calgary Rod!”
  • CBS NHL and Washington Capitals TV analyst Alan May was next up to offer his take on NHL free agency and said he’s puzzled by the Leafs goaltending moves. Regarding his Capitals signing goalie Darcy Kuemper, May said goaltending has been a problem for the Caps for some time now. He feels the New Jersey Devils are winning free agency.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? At press time the Stampeders/Blue Bombers were leading by a landslide.
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Rod’s cowboy hat! Wednesday’s was Tim Hunter.
