MONDAY COMMENTARY – LIFE WITHOUT FAJARDO

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

WHATEVER YOUR WEEKEND CONSISTED OF, I HOPE IT WAS GOOD!

FOR ME THE HIGHLIGHT WAS CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY AT THE CALGARY STAMPEDE; OR WHAT I’VE ALSO NICKNAMED “THE SUPER BOWL OF RODEO”. BOY DO THEY EVER DO IT FIRST CLASS.

IT WAS IMMENSE AND INTENSE. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THAT, FOR ME, WAS EATONIA, SK BULLRIDER DAKOTA BUTTAR SPLITTING THE $50,000 CHEQUE WITH ANOTHER RIDER FOR WINNING THAT EVENT. DAKOTA DOES THE PROVINCE PROUD EVERYDAY.

BUT IT WAS A LONG DAY. I LEARNED DURING MY FIRST CALGARY STAMPEDE THAT IT’S DISNEYLAND FOR COWBOYS SO THEY DON’T MIND SITTING ALL DAY IN JULY HEAT ATTENDING WHAT BASICALLY AMOUNTED TO THREE RODEOS BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK.

AND THEN A DEAN BRODY CONCERT AT THE GRANDSTAND TO END THE GREATEST OUTDOOR SHOW ON EARTH.

I ENJOYED IT, BUT TRULY MY IDEA OF FUN WAS SITTING AT THE CENTENNIAL CUP IN ESTEVAN IN MAY WATCHING THREE HOCKEY GAMES EACH DAY. DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS.

I’M GRATEFUL TO BE ABLE TO TAKE IN IT ALL.

AND THEN OF COURSE I’D ASSUME ALL OF OUR WEEKENDS CONSISTED OF WATCHING THE ROUGHRIDERS LOSE 30-24 TO THE TORONTO ARGONAUTS IN TOUCHDOWN ATLANTIC SATURDAY IN NOVA SCOTIA.

BOY WHAT A WEEK THIS IS GOING TO BE IN RIDERVILLE. WE’RE AWAITING WORD ON TWO THINGS: THE STATUS OF QUARTERBACK CODY FAJARDO WHO SUFFERED WHAT’S APPARENTLY A SIGNIFICANT KNEE INJURY AGAINST THE ARGOS, AND ALSO DISCIPLINE FOR RECEIVER DUKE WILLIAMS WHO THREW A HELMET AT A TORONTO PLAYER AND ALLEGEDLY SPIT TWICE ON THAT SAME OPPONENT.

PEOPLE’S WHOSE OPINION I RESPECT ARE STARTING TO GET DOWN ON FAJARDO FOR A VARIETY OF THINGS IN HIS PLAY BUT NOBODY EVER SAID HE WAS PERFECT.

BUT IT MAY NOT MATTER NOW ANYWAY. IF THE REPORTS I’M HEARING ARE CORRECT, SASKATCHEWAN MAY SOON LEARN WHAT LIFE’S LIKE WITHOUT FAJARDO.

SOMETIMES YOU DON’T APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE TILL IT’S GONE.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

Oakman definitely hit Cody low and twisted the injured leg. No call again! Riders are getting shafted by refs and the cfl … Why are there so many low and late hits missed ?

I’ll tell you why. This league has been exposed as a joke and was during the pandemic. Now to be clear. They have my money until the end of time. The season tickets are renewed automatic and even when Fred Wagman was drafting dead guys (Oh Vanstone wants to put him in the Plaza of Honor – that’s Lipp’s old buddy) I have gone every year since 1982. Some years I had voucher packs, season tickets, game tickets and last 7 years it’s season tickets. The point is they have me. Now who they don’t have is the 18-35 year… Read more »

Agribition Rodeo I can sit their 5 nights in a row. The Calgary Stampede would be neat BUT….it’ don’t beat sitting in a rink in July watching a hockey camp or 3 or 4 junior games in a day. To me that’s a last day on Earth deal with maybe an A&W Mozza meal, visit with some people I care about and then okay Obamamania is outta here and I’ll see you all on the other side. Cody is done for the season. For all those talking about Vernon Adams Jr…..we had him before and he couldn’t replace Kevin Glenn.… Read more »

Duke Williams certainly hasn’t came as advertised. I don’t know if he’s grabbed a 50/50 ball this year.
