TUESDAY RUNDOWN: GETTING TO THE BOTTOM OF THINGS
It’s a rather volatile week in Canadian sports and we brought on the experts to break it all down with Episode #802 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Tuesday on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: BREAKING NEWS: Johnny Gaudreau tells Spittin’ Chiclets he almost signed with NJ and Don Cherry said on the Grapevine podcast that Gaudreau left Calgary to escape responsibility! We broke it down. 1) Examining the contract situation of stars Matthew Tkachuk with the Flames & Pierre-Luc Dubois with the Jets, 2) Examining the remaining NHL free agents, 3) The CFL.ca Power Rankings are out for Week 7 and there’s been a seismic shift, 4) The Riders cancel Tuesday’s practice due to a Covid outbreak, 5) Juan Soto wins MLB’s Homerun Derby, and 6) Canada falls 1-0 to USA in the CONCACAF Womens Championship game in Mexico.
- Winnipeg Sports Talk host Andrew “Hustler” Paterson joined the show to examine the PLD mess and said “It’s like the ultimate WWE-like heel turn!” He said Dubois is not a star but he’s a very good player, and has made it known he wants out of Winnipeg despite two years left on his deal. Hustler discussed how the team went from a conference favourite to missing the playoffs, and where the franchise might go from here. Paterson also said “Thank God for the Bombers” and discussed the team’s 6-0 start. The Bombers visit Edmonton on Friday.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the best remaining NHL free agent – Nazem Kadri, Patrice Bergeron, Phil Kessel or John Klingberg? At press time, Kadri was running away with it.
- Moose returned for the opening to Hour 2 and invited all kinds of viewers comments on NHL items plus Week 7 in the CFL.
- Famed sportscaster Mike Richards of Sauga 960 radio in Mississauga – formerly of Fan 960 Calgary – joined the show to discuss the plight of the Flames and Rod said all of Calgary await’s Mike’s assessment. Richards said he’s worried for Calgary, not just because of the loss of Gaudreau and potentially losing Tkachuk, but also the aging Saddledome and the very future of the franchise in Calgary. Mike challenged Calgary citizens and politicians to step up and get a new arena built before it’s too late.
- Monday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Gary Stern. Tuesday’s was Mike Richards!
- See you at 12 pm ET Wednesday on Game+ TV and YouTube Live from Grey Eagle Resort & Casino.
