- RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off by covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Thursday’s NHL leftovers including Jacob Markstrom’s struggles in Calgary, 2) The Bills easily handled the Patriots 24-10 on Thursday Night Football, 3) The CFL Coaching Carousel includes the breaking news that Bob Dyce has been named head coach of the Ottawa RedBlacks, 4) Rod’s top CFL Free Agents by team are: BC – LB Bo Lokombo, Edmonton – WR Kenny Lawler, Calgary – OT Derek Dennis/LB Cam Judge, SK – C Dan Clark, Winnipeg – OT Stanley Bryant, Hamilton – LB Simoni Lawrence/QB Bo Levi Mitchell, Toronto – QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Ottawa – LB Avery Williams and Montreal – REC Geno Lewis 5) The Top 5 highest-paid NFL quarterbacks are on non-playoff bound teams – Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Matt Stafford and Derek Carr, and 6) It’s opening weekend in the NLL with six games on tap including Friday’s featured game with Philadelphia at Halifax!
- News broke later in the day that Marc Mueller has pulled his name from the running to be Saskatchewan’s Offensive Coordinator and will stay in Calgary. Rod said, “I told ya so.”
- Famed CFL coach Jeff Reinebold joined the show from Hawaii where he’s Director of Player Development with the NCAA’s Rainbow Warriors. Jeff applauded the hiring of Bob Dyce, saying he’s ultimately-respected, the RedBlacks players have responded to him, and he’s always been a tough Special Teams adversary. Regarding Dyce’s biggest task ahead, Jeff said it’s naming his coaching staff and explained why it’s so difficult. Reinebold also analyzes the NFL for Sky Sports and said regarding NFL quarterbacks, teams who’ve overpaid for franchise quarterbacks have failed in assembling younger, cheaper players around them.
- In Hour 2 we talked more CFL buzz and played NFL Deal or No Deal for our exclusive betting partner Bet Regal regarding Week 13 games.
- Calgary Stampeders pending free agent offensive tackle Derek Dennis joined the show from his off-season home in Arizona. The perennial All Star said he’s been through free agency so many times that it doesn’t cause him anxiety anymore. The NFL/CFL/XFL veteran hinted that he’d like to say in Calgary. Regarding the 12-6 Stampeders and their Division Semifinal loss at BC, he feels they were good enough to win but the better team won. However he had the feeling Bo Levi Mitchell was going to lead them to a comeback in the fourth quarter. The Bonecrusher also offered to help out the RP Show’s Super Bowl coverage in Arizona.
- It was Day 4 of our NHL Reverse Retro Jersey Bracket and so far Florida, Vegas and the NY Rangers have moved on to Round 2. The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Whose Reverse Retro Jersey is better – L.A. Kings or Anaheim Ducks? At press time, the Kings were way out in front.
- Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Kevin Killer Kaminski. Friday’s was Derek Dennis!
