RUSH FALL IN OT AT SAN DIEGO

Saskatchewan at San Diego - 12.9.22

San Diego, CA, USA – The Saskatchewan Rush head home falling 13-12 in overtime to the San Diego Seals at Pechanga Arena on Friday night. 

The Rush finished the first quarter on top with a 2-1 lead. San Diego opened the scoring early, but forward Marshall Powless answered back quickly to tie the game. Ryan Keenan came out with a twister move to give Saskatchewan the lead to close out the first 15. 

Saskatchewan kept the battle alive to finish off the first half. 2022 first round draft pick Austin Madronic scored his first NLL goal and Robert Church followed behind to extend the lead to 4-1. The Seals returned with a goal, but Matt Beers and Mike Messenger fired back to make it 6-2. San Diego put one more on the board to close out the first 30 minutes 6-3. The Rush outshot the Seals 23-19 with Alex Buque manning the crease. 

The third quarter was nothing shy of goal scoring. Church notched two goals to get his second hat trick of the season and rookie Jerrett Smith found the crease to earn his first NLL career goal. Captain Ryan Dilks slipped one past Frank Scigliano and the quarter finished off 10-4. Buque continued to be a brick wall between the pipes while San Diego outshot the Rush 31-30 after three. 

San Diego came out hot in the fourth quarter putting up four goals in a short time. Buque headed back to the bench and Eric Penney stepped in between the pipes but San Diego quickly returns with one more goal. The Seals tied it up 10-10 with nine minutes left and followed up with two more goals. Dan Lintner lit up the net with his 100th career goal and first of the night and Church tied it up to send it into overtime. Curtis Dickson sneaks one past Penney for San Diego to finish the game with a 13-12 overtime win.

The Rush head back to SaskTel Centre on New Year’s Eve to take on Panther City Lacrosse Club for the first time this season. The game will take place on December 31st with an 8:00 p.m. start time.
