TUESDAY RUNDOWN: RINGING IN 2023

We were back on air for the first time in 2023 with Tuesday’s Episode #909 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports Talk – on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and WQEE! Here’s the rundown:

• RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The NFL is rocked by the injury to Bills safety Damar Hamlin. What went into the NFL calling the game? 2) Connor Bedard leads Canada to a 4-3 OT win over Slovakia in a World Junior Quarterfinal, 3) Monday NHL leftovers including Boston’s 2-1 win over Pittsburgh in the Outdoor Game, 4) NLL Week 5 recap, 5) Did you follow the weekend Bowl games and College Football Playoff Semifinals? (TCU and Georgia advanced), and 6) The Toronto Argonauts they are “parting ways” with Brandon Banks.
• All of our guests were scheduled for the second hour so the panel kibitzed with viewers about all these topics for the entirety of Hour 1. The chat included – Who will get Bedard at #1 in the NHL Draft?, What’s Speedy B’s legacy if he calls it a career?, and let’s not delve too deeply into the NFL’s decision to call Monday’s Bills/Bengals game and simply applaud it.
• Winnipeg Jets radio colour commentator Jamie Thomas joined the show to preview the Flames & Jets clash Tuesday night at Canada Life Centre. J.T. explained Winnipeg’s turnaround under Rick Bowness, said criticism of Paul Maurice is unfair, and answered plenty of viewer questions about this year’s Jets team. Jamie said he knew around U.S. Thanksgiving that the Jets were for real.
• Next up was Winnipeg ICE broadcaster Brian Munz who discussed the WHL team’s 28-5-0 start, and the many World Junior snubs of ICE players by Team Canada. (Brian feels there just aren’t enough spots available on the team to accommodate everyone). Brian said he expects the ICE to make a run for the Memorial Cup and said things are exciting with the Trade Deadline looming next week. He also noticed Rod’s Saskatoon Blades golf shirt and said he’ll be shipping some ICE gear to Florida. Rod quickly pulled out at Winnipeg ICE hat he’s had stashed away.
• The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Is Connor Bedard the greatest World Junior player ever? At press time, 74% of respondents said yes.
