TUESDAY RUNDOWN: A BIG CFL DAY!
CFL Winter Meetings are underway in Kananaskis, AB and we went to the top for interviews – plus the usual NHL, NFL, WHL & CFB talk – on Tuesday’s Episode #914 of The RP Show on Game+ TV, YouTube Live & WQEE Radio! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont got things going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The CFP National Championship was a laugher with Georgia busting up TCU 65-7 at SoFi Stadium, 2) NHL leftovers including the Oilers’ 6-3 loss at L.A., 3) Moose went through Bet Regal’s NFL Wild Card Playoff odds, 4) Nathan Rourke works out for the Chiefs and Giants, bringing the total of NFL teams to 11, 5) There are 10 NHL games Tuesday night including juicy matches involving the Jets, Flames & Panthers, 6A) It’s WHL Trade Deadline Day, and 6B) NBA.
- Given the CFL theme, we delved deep into the future of BC Lions QB Nathan Rourke and posed this daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question: Is it good or bad for the CFL for Rourke to sign in the NFL? At press time 60% of respondents said it’s a good thing.
- The hosts both voted yes, saying it’ll provide further proof the CFL is a viable path to the NFL, inspire more Canadian kids to play football, and help with league marketing. Many viewers protested that it’s a bad thing, asking “Why would we want our best players to leave?”
- CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie joined the show from Winter Meetings and said the focus of the discussions is to create stronger collaboration among CFL teams. As far as rules go, Ambrosie said the nine rule changes last season created more scoring, less 2-and-outs and better “flow” to the games. The Commissioner also talked about the Damar Hamlin injury, the CFL’s commitment to player safety, and regarding Nathan Rourke, Ambrosie said he’d love to see him in a BC Lions uniform next season but is also hoping Rourke reaches his fullest potential in his career.
- In Hour 2 we were joined by Montreal Alouettes head coach Jason Maas. He said it’s both a good and bad thing for the CFL to lose Rourke. Maas said his biggest task since taking over the Als is appointing his staff, and then he’ll turn his attention to the roster. With free agency looming, Jason said they really want to have QB Trevor Harris back in 2023. Maas also discussed coaching a team he wants played for, and his long-standing relationship with Als GM Danny Maciocia.
- If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/12 am CT on Game+ TV, on our YouTube Channel or wherever you enjoy your podcasts.
