TUESDAY COMMENTARY – MOVIN’ ON

How bout them Cowboys?

America’s Team is off to the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs after a masterful 31-14 domination of the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay Monday night.

And as always, there’s plenty to discuss in the aftermath. Cowboys kicker Brett Maher – formerly of the CFL’s Ottawa RedBlacks – set an NFL record with four missed converts. Yes, four.

However those points weren’t needed. Dallas built up a 31-6 lead at one point and that was enough for owner Jerry Jones to say afterwards that they won’t be cutting Maher, nor auditioning kickers ahead of this week’s playoff game at San Fran.

Something about sticking with your people.

Meanwhile for Tampa, it was deflating to see Tom Brady struggle with 3-and-out after 3-and-out. (Please excuse the pun). Oddly, Brady’s 66 pass attempts were a career high, at age 45.

It was his first-ever loss to the Dallas Cowboys franchise and Monday’s performance would be a sad way to finish his career.

My guess is he won’t retire, but his days in Tampa are done. He gave his farewells after the game. Now Tom owns two cities; Boston and Tampa Bay!

He’ll assuredly get offers this winter and here in Miami they remain obsessed with Brady, seemingly not content until he’s quarterbacking the Dolphins.

Don’t forget Tom owns a $50-million home here.

Well, he did. But that’s a story for another time.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
