WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – PLAYOFF MODE >> ON

It’s been said that we don’t talk nearly enough hockey on here.
If you agree, then today’s your day.
We passed the midway point of the NHL regular season last Wednesday and all we’re in for the rest of the season is a white knuckle ride.
At least, depending on your team.
There were three big games involving Canadian teams Tuesday night with a variety of results.
It was a war in Toronto where the Leafs came back from 4-2 down to beat the Florida Panthers 5-4 in overtime. For the Leafs, it was just another night at the office (and they may have had the officiating on their side) while the Panthers should be happy with the loser point on the road against a top team.
Florida had won five of seven going in, and it seems Paul Maurice has the arrow pointed up.
Winnipeg shockingly lost 4-1 in Montreal and the Canadiens continue to ignore that they’re supposed to lose with this very young group.
If you’re a Habs fan, you should be very encouraged. The worst days of the rebuild are behind them, and it’s straight up from here.
The Oilers won their fourth in a row, 5-2 over Seattle, and Connor McDavid scored his 38th. It was another of the highlight-reel variety. That was clutch to beat a team ahead of them in the standings.
The Flames play tonight, hosting Colorado, and one of those teams will likely miss the playoffs.
It sure feels like the playoffs have already started.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
