FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: LALJI, BAUMING AND MORE
Fridays are reserved for the gridiron on the RP Show and we tackled all the latest on Episode #922 of your favourite Daytime Sports Talk Show on Game TV, YouTube Live and WQEE Radio! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont got the ball rolling with these Quick Six show topics: 1) Thursday’s NHL leftovers including a wild night in the NHL with fights and dirty play galore, 2) The NHL Fan Vote All Stars have been announced for the 2023 Honda NHL All Star Game in Sunrise, FL next month, 3) NFL Division Playoff weekend preview – Jacksonville at Kansas City (-8.5), NY Giants at Philadelphia (-7.5), Cincinnati at Buffalo (-5.5) and Dallas at San Francisco (-4), 4) There’s tons of NFL off-field news including the Dolphins firing defensive coordinator Josh Boyer and where will Tom Brady play next year?, 5) Dub Hub, and 6) In the NBA the T-Wolves tripped up the Raptors 128-126 Thursday night while the Hawks host the Knicks on Friday night.
- All of our guests were pushed into Hour 2 so for the first hour the panel made their weekend NFL straight-up picks (Rod: Chiefs, Eagles, Bengals & Cowboys, Moose: Chiefs, Eagles, Bengals & 49ers), plus plenty of CFL talk and a preview of Friday night’s WHL games including Regina at Swift Current and P.A. at Saskatoon.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is the Game of the Weekend in the NFL? At press time, Cincinnati/Buffalo had over 60% of the vote.
- TSN Vancouver’s Farhan Lalji led off Hour 2 with a wonderful recap of the Vancouver Canucks mess. Like everyone else, he’s at a loss to explain why a team with so many good players performs so badly! He said the culture changed right after the team won the Presidents Cup in 2012. Regarding the BC Lions, Farhan said it was quite a resurgence in 2022 thanks largely to QB Nathan Rourke and the off-field efforts of new owner Amar Doman. He expects the success to continue with Vernon Adams behind centre. Lalji admitted he’ll miss dealing with Rourke with the Lions but hopes to cover his NFL career in-person with possibly trips to Jaguars training camp or preseason games.
- NHL.com Winnipeg Jets writer and Bonfire Sports host Darrin Bauming joined the show to explain the Jets’ 4-1 loss at Toronto on Thursday night. He did a deep dive on the Jets and said the longer centre Pierre-Luc Dubois goes unsigned, the higher his pricetag gets. Regarding the CFL, Bauming’s 2023 West Division standings prediction is: Winnipeg, Calgary, BC, Edmonton, Saskatchewan.
- If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/12 am CT on Game+ TV or on our YouTube Channel. You can also enjoy the podcast wherever the best podcasts are found.
