SATURDAY SPORTS PAGE: ARGOS HOLD OFF ALOUETTES
MONTREAL – Quarterback Chad Kelly threw three touchdowns and ran for another as the Toronto Argonauts remain undefeated with a 35-27 win over the Montreal Alouettes on Friday night.
Toronto, the CFL’s only team without a loss, starts the season 4-0 for the first time since 1983, the same year the Argos won the Grey Cup.
Kelly, who completed 21 passes on 25 attempts for 351 yards and threw one interception, found Canadian David Ungerer III for his second touchdown catch with just under two minutes left to lift Toronto to victory in front of 16,151 spectators on the road at Molson Stadium.
Running back A.J. Ouellette rushed for 95 yards on 14 carries, and DaVaris Daniels had a game-high 91 receiving yards.
Montreal (2-3) lost for a third-straight game to fall below .500 for the first time this season.
Quarterback Cody Fajardo was 26 for 36 for 274 passing yards. He threw three touchdown passes and two interceptions.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went deep in his first plate appearance following his Home Run Derby win earlier this week, Brandon Belt drove in the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2. Matt Chapman had three hits and an RBI and Whit Merrifield drove in two runs as Toronto opened the second half of the season with its sixth win in seven games.

The Ottawa BlackJacks (12-5) extended their franchise-best win streak to eight games as they took down the Scarborough Shooting Stars (7-7) in an 88-79 victory on Friday night.
Teddy Allen’s 33 points paced the Winnipeg Sea Bears to a 96-88 bounce-back win over the Montréal Alliance at Canada Life Centre on Friday.
The Brampton Honey Badgers (6-9) snapped a five-game losing skid with a 96-91 road victory against the Vancouver Bandits (5-9) on Saturday night.
SCOTTISH OPEN
Rory McIlroy is the leader heading into the weekend of the Scottish Open, despite having a horrible day on the green. McIlroy missed nine putts from 10 feet or closer including eight of those birdie chances, but still had a one-stroke lead at 10 under. Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario, is at 3 under after a second round of 5-under 65.
NCAA
The NCAA has fined Tennessee more than 8 million dollars (U-S) and issued a scathing report outlining more than 200 infractions during the three-year tenure of former football coach Jeremy Pruitt. The Volunteers escaped a postseason ban. The sprawling report said Tennessee committed 18 Level I violations, the most severe, and said most involved recruiting infractions and direct payments to athletes and their families.
NHL
A police report says Alex Galchenyuk repeatedly used racial slurs toward a police officer in training and threatened to have two officers killed during a traffic stop last weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona. Those actions led the NHL’s Coyotes to terminate the player’s contract. A Scottsdale Police Department report said Galchenyuk was erratic and aggressive toward officers after apparently crashing a car into a sign.

Less than 1% of 1% of college players make the NFL so 1 game is an accomplishment.
