MONDAY COMMENTARY – GRUMPY PEOPLE
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)
It’s going to be a long week!
Personally, I’m fine, but The RP Show has taken up residency in Calgary for the rest of summer at Century Downs Racetrack & Casino and between here and Sask, the people I’ve been around aren’t very happy with their football teams.
We all know the Roughriders lost at BC 19-9 Saturday night, and that makes two in a row. Back-up QB Mason Fine wasn’t able to move the ball nor score points despite a fine showing by the defense, and the Lions being without their starter as well.
It started Sunday morning with some Rider fans griping that I didn’t provide enough analysis in my weekend column about the game but the fact is, I was at a wedding in Weyburn and only had half an eye on it.
And I’m old enough to know how grumpy Rider fans get when their team loses. So their complaints went in one ear and out the other.
But then I get to Calgary and watched with Stamps fans in the casino as their team lost in overtime to the previously hapless Ottawa RedBlacks at McMahon Stadium.
Umm … Calgary hasn’t won a game at home this year. When do we start to talk about that?
Regardless, their coach Dave Dickenson is under the gun and threatening changes with their team sitting 4th in the West.
That’s a whole lotta grumpy people to be around!
Can I say it’s going to be an exciting week for the Blue Jays? They open a series at the Dodgers today and the weekend opens with a date versus Shohei Ohtani and the Angels.
That’ll be my focus this week. Look for the good instead of wallowing in the bad and you’ll be surprised how quickly your mood changes.
And as for being in a brand new casino for weeks on end, I love the action in the morning as we’re setting up to go to air and the feeling of hope in the air.
Because without hope, life ain’t that much fun.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Dickenson is making sooooooo many bad calls as HC during the game. That tells me he just isnt head coach material. Nice enough guy but not a head coach. Then there is that doufus Kelly Jeffrey who has no clue how to game plan an offense with plays that suit that offense. His play calling on saturday was outrageously poor. I could call better plays than him. I guess that is what you get when no one else wanted the job. It is not about winning either, that isnt my beef. My beef is there was 0 effort into that… Read more »
After having Jason Maas call plays for the Riders Kelly Jeffery is a breath of fresh air.
I can imagine what’s going on in the QB meetings. Whomever gets the next shot is trying to bide their time until the A Team of receivers are back. Poor Fines might be just cannon fodder.
