MONDAY RUNDOWN: DAY 1 AT CENTURY DOWNS

We maintain that summer’s for football and we had a bevy of gridiron guests on Monday’s Episode #1,045 of The RP Show, our first from Century Downs Racetrack & Casino in Calgary! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Blue Jays avoided a sweep in Seattle and visit the Dodgers Monday night, 2) Week 7 in the CFL closed with a thriller in Calgary – RedBlacks 43 Stampeders 41 in OT, 3) In other games, it was Winnipeg 28 Edmonton 14, Toronto 31 Hamilton 15 and BC 19 Saskatchewan 9, 4) Maple Leafs goalie Ilya Samsonov gets a 1-year, $3.55M contract from an arbitrator, 5) What are the 5 things we’re looking forward to the most this NFL season?, and 6) Recaps of the British Open and Tour de France.
  • TSN Football Insider Dave Naylor joined the show from Toronto and said Argo QB Chad Kelly is still the story of the young CFL season despite the accomplishments of RedBlacks QB Dustin Crum. Viewers asked which CFL coach is most on the hot seat this season and Naylor figures it’s Edmonton’s Chris Jones and Hamilton’s Orlondo Steinauer, however he doesn’t feel any changes will be made in either place.
  • Calgary Stampeders Voice Mark Stephen joined the show at Century Downs for a 40-minute chat. Mark covered it all including the alarming fact the Stamps haven’t won a home game this season. The panel went through all the Week 7 games and teed up Week 8. The guys then ventured into Flames/NHL talk, NFL and chuckwagon racing!
  • Sirius/XM NFL Radio’s Zig Fracassi joined the show from New York to discuss the kickoff to training camps and outlined his Top 5 NFL storylines. His were very similar to Rod’s, including can the Cowboys surpass the Eagles in the NFC? And how will Aaron Rodgers fare with the Jets?
  • The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: What are your thoughts on Ilya Samsonov’s arbitration contract – Good Deal or Bad Deal? At press time, results were around 50/50.
