(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)

A coupla three or four thoughts headed into the weekend:

#1 – Interesting times in the CFL. All eyes were on Hamilton last night where the visiting Edmonton Elks shook off a 90-minute weather delay and snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 24-10 win over the Ticats. I feel like the whole country was cheering for the Elks to shake the skid, but they still have to contend with a 22-game home losing streak.

One game at a time.

#2 – Some nincompoops will think the win had something to do with the team firing President Victor Cui earlier this week. But I highly doubt it.

I spoke with Vic and asked him to come on the RP Show however he said out of respect for the Board of Directors of the Edmonton Football Club, he’ll pass for now.

Can’t wait to hear that story!

#3 – There are a lot of “Only in the CFL” moments but at the halfway turn, things are juicy in the West. That Elks win has given them life and at 1-9, they’re only two games back of Calgary and three back of the Riders.

The Rider Nation will be glad to know that Theo Fleury’s golf tournament yesterday, plenty of Stamps fans conceded the Riders are the better team.

If you look at the standings, they are.

#4 – It was a lot of laughs hosting Theo’s golf tourney, benefitting the Breaking Free Foundation, which provides free counselling for trauma victims. The waiting list for therapy is two years long, and has 262 people on it.

That wasn’t the funny part.

No, it was telling and hearing stories during the hot stove with Theo and his 1989 Stanley Cup winning teammate Colin Patterson before a full house.

Sports people will never realize that what they do is not life or death, although for them it is. I get it.

But when you recover a life, now that’s a real win.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Riders better than the Calgary Stampeders? That’s ridiculous ludicrous talk by a few malcontents who got spoiled by all the years at the top of the CFL West Division. Lets be clear, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are a train wreck organization top to bottom. The 2023 CFL season is at the halfway mark and the Stampeders will start to make their move to a third place finish in the West ahead of the Riders who will finish near the bottom. Edmonton Elks have started their move out of the West Division basement in a unpredictable CFL.
