WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY – FAN FOR LIFE?

Wednesdays are for random thoughts so … buckle up!

#1 – You’ve come this far, so you might as well hang in till the end. I’m talking about seeing how this Roughriders season ends up, even though they carry a 6-game losing streak into Saturday’s home finale against Toronto.

There is absolutely nothing that indicates there’s going to be a miraculous finish and magical run to the Grey Cup but there’s no point tuning out now. The Argos are favoured by 9.5-points at our betting partner Bet Regal.

#2 – Lotsa folks are talking about “Who gets fired?” with the Riders but did you forget the Coach & GM are both on expiring contracts? Simply not renewing their deals would get the job done but if that’s as far as the axe swings, you read it here first, not much will change in Riderville in the years ahead.

But my oh my! The rumours of who’s taking over are juicy! People are lining up for the various jobs.

#3 – Totally out of left field here but I’ve noticed sports fans just absolutely love the talk of expansion in their favourite leagues. Halifax in the CFL, Houston or Atlanta in the NHL, Montreal in the NBA and MLB, or Europe and Mexico in the NFL.

I’ve largely tuned it out over the years … till now. It provides endless talkshow fodder. I have zero faith the CFL will expand – to Halifax, or anywhere else – but it appears the other leagues will and I’m behind the NHLToAtlanta hashtag!

Being on the radio in Atlanta daily has really turned me into a fan and now with plenty of friends who’ve played there – both for the Flames and Thrashers – I’ve become a real fan of the Peach City as a hockey town!

And finally #4 – Your task for the day is thinking back to when and why you became a fan of your favourite teams? The Riders and Pats were easy for me, but I’ve been considering moving on from the Dallas Cowboys. I just don’t care for the coach or quarterback.

But those roots run deep and am finding out it’s not as easy you think!

Bonds and habits formed in childhood – both good and bad – tend to stick with you for life.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

#4 – you’re speaking to the choir. Bonds are one thing. We all have bonds. – Trauma Bonds are an entirely different thing. The Roughriders and Pats are right from 1982 and not a day went by I even considered jumping ship. It’s been a ride, but in this town things will change because people simply will not put up with it. The Roughriders have a history of incompetence mixed with just no money in an uneven system. With a Salary Management System there is zero excuse. None. It’s just a matter of getting the right people in for the… Read more »

#2. This can all be traced back to the hiring of Craig Reynolds. I’ve said it many times over the last two years, and I said it when he was hired……accountants are not trained in anything but counting money. Imagine the Winnipeg Blue Bombers or Toronto Argonauts with an accountant in charge. President sets the tone for the entire organization, tell me what Craig has accomplished ON the field?? Long time season ticket holder, not renewing until he’s gone. Wake up Board!!

Season ticket holder here not renewing until Jeremy O’Day and his misfits are gone and a new competent team manager with a proven prerequisite football background is hired.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders need to rehire Chris Jones and let him finish the job he started by building the Riders into a CFL Champion.
