COMMENTARY: BOYS DONE WELL
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on Cat Country 98 & LTD Radio)
I’m really curious what’s in your sports vortex these days. Your purview.
In other words, what’s top-of-mind?
It is the Rod Pedersen Commentary so I guess today I can speak on what’s in my focus.
Hockey is always #1 for me so I’m tickled pink that the Florida Panthers are on a homestand which opened with a 4-3 home loss to the Islanders.
It was nice to see Sask boy Lane Lambert on New York’s bench, and the buzz in the press box was that Lane’s making a lot out of not much.
I was never clear where Lane’s from; his HockeyDB says he was born in Melfort but I heard he was raised in Swift Current. Either way, he’s done real well for himself.
Of course I’m very closely following the play of Connor Bedard. He looked tired on Sunday, notching an assist in Chicago’s 4-1 loss at Minnesota. That was just 24 hours after scoring the NHL goal-of-the-weekend in Winnipeg.
And if I’m being honest, my football focus was on the much-hyped College Football Playoff announcement on Sunday, and which final four teams would make up the national semifinals (i.e. the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl).
I can’t imagine you missed it but in case you did, Texas, Alabama, Washington and Michigan were chosen by the selection panel. If you need a rooting interest, the Texas Longhorns are coached by former Saskatchewan quarterback Steve Sarkisian. (Speaking of guys who’ve done well for themself).
But the biggest noise coming out of all of that is the exclusion of the Florida State Seminoles from the semifinal field. They went 13-0 and won their conference but for reasons too long to get into here today, the committee snubbed them. Honestly, we may never hear the end of it.
Bowl season is here and the NFL is hitting the homestretch. Maybe it’s the best time for the CFL to take a step back.
After all, no flower blooms year-round.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

On the NCAA selection, I’ll get into it, FSU only quality non conference win was against LSU in week 1 , if they were to play the tigers now they’d get rolled. Undefeated through the ACC by far the weakest League of the “power 5” Unfortunately their star QB went down to injury, right or wrong it affects the commitee’s perception. It’s the BEST 4 that get in , they at this point aren’t one of the best 4. Michigan shouldn’t be postseason eligible… kick them out and puy FSU in lol
