WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN

Wednesdays have always been a big hockey day on the RP Show and we like to focus on teams in the NHL’s Bermuda Triangle as much as possible! That was the case on Episode #1150.

Flames & Canucks alum Tim Hunter joined the show from Arizona to discuss all those teams. While Calgary’s shown signs of life, Hunter threw water on the notion of a playoff berth saying the team will have to play .650-.700 hockey the rest of the way to reach the postseason. Their problems lie on the shoulders of underperforming players. As for the surprising Canucks, Hunter said head coach Rick Tocchet called them out earlier in the season and they’ve been a different group since! Regarding the Coyotes, Hunter said it’s pretty quiet in The Valley regarding the team’s future but said it’s not hard to get tickets even though their rink only holds 4,600.

Winnipeg Jets correspondent Jamie Thomas joined the show to explain the team’s hot first half and said head coach Rick Bowness has done a lot of heavy lifting to change the culture and set expectations. He said the mood in the dressing room is “lighter” thanks largely to the leadership of captain Adam Lowry, a prairie boy who wants to spend his career as a Jet.

The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: What will happen with Alberta’s NHL teams come playoff time – Oilers Make It, Flames Make It, Both Make It or Both Miss? At press time, the whopping majority had Edmonton making the playoffs, and the Flames missing.

We also discussed NFL news, PWHL and the RP Show heading to Super Bowl.
