Commentary: Up For Anything
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
That might’ve been the best Sunday of the entire year, if you were paying attention.
And … if you love hockey.
About 12 solid hours of Stanley Cup Playoff action – a quadrupleheader – putting NFL Sundays and their nine straight hours to shame.
As luck would have it, it opened here in South Florida with a 12:30 puck drop between the Tampa Bay Lightning and hometown Florida Panthers.
It feels odd that the Battle of Florida is blossoming while the Flames, Canadiens and Senators are sitting at home, but whatever.
And it also marked the first time that I’ve ever been at a hockey game where breakfast was served on the press box buffet.
But again, whatever. I’m up for anything!
The game didn’t disappoint, as the Panthers eaked out a 3-2 victory in Game 1 and then I hung around to attend the postgame news conferences of coaches Jon Cooper and Paul Maurice, plus players Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk.
Because it’s the Cup.
Over the course of the next several hours, the Rangers routed the Capitals, the Jets won a willlllllddd one over the Avalanche in kookoo Canada Life Centre, and the Canucks predictably knocked off the Predators, all in series openers.
Lucky us we get to do it all over again today with a four-banger; games in Boston, Carolina, Dallas and Edmonton.
Settle in and buckle up.
It’s going to be a fun two months.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
