A coupla three or so thoughts heading into the weekend …
#1 – While Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs hasn’t been the slobberknocker we’d hoped, this Bruins-Leafs tilt – which is now going to a seventh game on Saturday night – has made up for any deficiencies from the other series.
A prediction? Forget it. I’ve picked Boston in each of the last two games and been wrong. Although I did pick Toronto to take it in 7!
(Watch that be the kiss of death)
#2 – As I’ve warned for years; beware the Fake News. NHL Radio pundits advised on Thursday that all the noise surrounding the futures of Rod Brind’Amour in Carolina and Jon Cooper in Tampa Bay is being cooked up by those coaches, through the *insiders*, to give them a leg up with their current teams.
So with that, I pay no attention to it.
#3 – Oh, and I can play that game too. My phone’s blown up with CFL types trying to influence me on the Chad Kelly situation; from both sides.
The tough part is, these are my friends on the other end of the line. But they have an agenda and I don’t care to be used.
For those that don’t know, Toronto’s QB – the current Face of the CFL – is accused of sexual harassment by a former Argos employee.
The Argos have dug their heels in and denied it all, basically saying it amounts to nothing more than a scorned ex-employee.
It’s a highly, highly delicate situation and a lot of peoples’ reputations – and the League’s as well – depend on it.
Therefore I want no part in it.
And #4 – Iconic Canadian broadcaster Rod Black was on the RP Show Friday recalling how he was in attendance for his son Tyler’s Major League debut this week with the Milwaukee Brewers. Video of Rod enjoying the game in the crowd has gone viral.
He admitted that had he still been at TSN, he wouldn’t have been able to be there live.
Do you need any more evidence that we’re all where we’re supposed to be?
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 5 pm on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
#3 This is what I don’t get. Well I do, but will explain further down. More free advice. The Argos have only so many people that participated in that situation. As we know most people are stupid. So for sure there would be text messages. Probably someone standing there as a witness. Then you get the guy saying “don’t open a can of worms” Once the interviews are conducted it comes down to credibility and balance of probability. You have a senior manager involved. The larger question to the top guy is – “what did you know. When did you… Read more »
Rod Brind’Amour can have the same playoff success as Sheldon Keefe. Which adds up to neither one winning anything. Yet one guy works out, is in a no name market, and he is headed to Seattle to work for his buddy and former teammate. Like the players there is no “loyalty” its about driving contracts up and the Carolina owner would trip over a dime to pick up a nickel. That act gets old. It also gets old with the Head Coach getting Assistants and support staff tied up first. Chris Jones does this and management fall for it. You… Read more »
Rod Black seems, from everyone’s accounts, a decent man. I always feel bad getting mad at him and then he’s working with starving kids from Africa on the other channel. But he was not a good announcer. I think he thought he was there to find the highlight of the night (‘that’s going on the highlight reel!’…. But the play was 17 yards and it was 2nd and 20. I guess both teams are happy – the defence is high fiving – so we still punt?) Or call the result early… it’s 21-0 in the second quarter and he’s calling… Read more »
#3 I lived 50 miles out of Swift Current and heard the Graham James thing 3 months before the bubble burst and it hit the media. I suspect this Chad Kelly deal is similar.
