Tuesday Commentary: Aloha

It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: It is time for the Major League Baseball playoffs. For a generation, when the Blue Jays really sucked, they were my regular season team and then the Yankees were the team I cheered for in the playoffs.

Looks like we’re back there again.

There are four wild card series openers today and there’s some new blood in the MLB postseason: The Tigers, Astros, Royals, Orioles, Mets, Brewers, Braves and Padres all hit the field today.

That’s pretty darned good.

Next the great: That may be the most apt term for Canadian Football Hall of Fame newcomer Chad Owens:

Great.

The Flyin’ Hawaiian joined the RP Show on Monday from his native Honolulu to discuss his famed CFL career which spanned 2009-2018, two Grey Cup wins, a league MVP nod and tons of other honours.

I told Chad he’s one of only a handful of players that I watched and loved on the other team during my 20 seasons with the Riders. Geroy Simon, Anthony Calvillo and Charleston Hughes were the others. (What an eternal treat to have gotten to know them all personally at the end of their careers).

Owens told some never-before-told stories in our interview and was, as usual, great.

You can watch the interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiXQOY99XeE

And finally, the ugly: There’s a lot of ugliness in sports right now. Some you see, and most you don’t.

The iconic Pete Rose passed away Monday at age 83 and you can imagine the tributes pouring in for Charlie Hustle on media outlets across America.

In the 80’s, the Reds and Phillies great accepted a lifetime ban for betting on baseball and it’s a shame that he took to the grave. Literally.

We learned he also spent five years in prison for tax evasion. Perhaps I forgot.

Will he ever get into the Hall of Fame? He did admit to betting on baseball, after all.

The pundits say as long as Rob Manfred is Commissioner, the answer is no.

When it comes to absolute power like that, I’d say that’s pretty ugly.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 4 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)

Good morning

Now that September 30ths annual race hustling day has passes

Saskatchewan faces a choice. 9 more years of Singh/Trudeau on a provincial level or keep this train moving forward.

Here is what the NDP Leader who is a Social Worker by trade offers:
-$2B to the teachers mafia
-$B to the Healthcare mafia
– alienation from your kids due to the alphabet mafia

No taxes?

The girl math doesn’t add up.

Rural Saskatchewan will bring it home.

Pete Rose kept Pete Rose out of baseball on an employment level. On a HOF Level – Pete ran their a$$es over and then some for 24 years. At the end of the day- more is going to come out on this and it goes all the way back to 1982 when he was suspected. Regarding addiction and malignant narcissism he is the poster boy. Past that. Pete Rose LOVED baseball. He just loved his addictions more. Plenty of those around and in the obits today. Remember MLB to the CFL tells you to gamble responsibly and brought to you… Read more »
