It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday on this Commentary. Let’s go!

#1 – Frankly I can’t think of another issue in sports that generates more different opinions and debate than the legacy of Pete Rose.

Charlie Hustle passed away on Monday at age 83 and he took his lifetime ban from baseball and the Hall of Fame with him. He, of course, was ahead of his time by gambling on his sport way back in the 80’s.

I say he served his penance and should’ve been inducted years ago. Others say that now that Pete’s dead, he should go in.

Umm, what good would that do?

Others say that he broke the rules, stained the game, and should pay until the end of time.

Tough crowd.

#2 – There are a lot of confused people on earth these days and for some reason, they look to sports to make sense of it all.

Unfortunately there are many, many examples as to why sports is more screwed up than anything.

Don’t drive yourself crazy trying to figure it all out, because you won’t find an answer.

But whomever said “Money is the root of all evil” was onto something.

#3 – I hadn’t planned to invest as much coverage into the WHL this season as I have for decades because I simply don’t have a connection to the league anymore. However, instead, we’ve added Glen Erickson’s 10 DUB Things column to this blog and I’ll continue to post the scores.

I just love the league too much! And I’m glad that’ll never change.

#4 – These are long, long weeks between games in football; particularly the CFL.

The games in Week 18 are all slobberknockers with pretty massive ramifications. Winnipeg’s at Hamilton on Friday in a battle of the league’s hottest two teams. BC visits Calgary later that night in a must-win game for the Stamps, and it may be one final kick at the can for Lions QB Nathan Rourke before they make a change there.

And the Riders need only a win at Edmonton on Saturday to clinch a playoff spot, just a few short weeks after being written off for dead.

It’s been the most entertaining CFL season in, perhaps, ever.

I’m glad I’ve taken the time to enjoy it thoroughly.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
