It was quite a night in the NHL!

Of the nine games, I don’t think there’s much doubt that the Game of the Night was in Seattle where the Winnipeg Jets put their season-opening 6-0 record on the line against the Kraken.

Did you watch it?

In a back and forth affair, Nikolaj Ehlers scored in overtime and the Jets prevailed 4-3.

Make it 7-0.

The best individual performance of the night? Florida’s Sergei Bobrovsky backstopped the Panthers to a 3-1 win over the Rangers in New York and collected his 400th career win.

Ho hum?

I don’t think so. Bob is the fastest goalie in NHL history to reach 400 wins, and is the first Russian target to do so.

Meanwhile it was a bad night for the Leafs and Flames.

Toronto was bombed 5-1 at home by the St. Louis Blues so you can put that parade on hold.

Ditto for the Flames, who suffered their first regulation loss of the season, 4-2 to Carolina in the Saddledome.

That snapped Calgary’s club record 6-game point streak to open the season.

Are things settling down after a chaotic opening two weeks of the NHL season? (i.e. “They are who we thought they were” territory).

It sure seems that way.

Meanwhile I’m pretty darned excited to have snatched up the very last copy of famed NHL coach Doug MacLean’s new book Draft Day at the local Barnes & Noble. The former Panthers coach said he’s eager to come on our show to promote it, just in time for Christmas.

“How Hockey Teams Pick Winners Or Get Left Behind” is the synopsis of the book.

Looks like my weekend is set.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
