Monday Commentary: Happy Endings
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
Sometimes I wonder if sports fans follow their favourite team’s season like it was a storybook, rather than a series of short stories.
I mean, honestly, follow it however you wish but if you view a season like one long journey, it can be truly fascinating.
Some have happy endings, while others are horror stories which would make even this month’s classics like Hallowe’en and Nightmare On Elm Street blush.
What’s yours like so far?
I’m a fan of the Dallas Cowboys so basically, it’s had more laughs than a stack of comic books. America’s Team lost 30-24 at San Francisco in prime time in Week 8, falling to 3-4 on the season.
If you don’t know why I find this funny, then you haven’t been following along. And that’s okay; you have your own team to follow.
North of the border, this Saskatchewan Roughriders season has been nothing short of fascinating and despite considerable ups and downs during the regular season, they’re now primed to host the CFL Western Semifinal this Saturday against BC.
So the end of the story remains to be told.
Maybe hockey’s your thing.
There are 32 stories across the NHL each season and each has its own unique path.
A pretty exciting chapter in the Tampa Bay Lightning story will unfold here in Florida tonight as franchise icon Steven Stamkos returns to Amalie Arena for the first time, now with the Nashville Predators.
What a story!
On Sunday night I was able to watch the entirety of the Edmonton Oilers’ 3-2 comeback overtime victory at Detroit on NHL Network.
After a shaky start, the reigning Western Conference champs are rounding into form and it was a big night for the usual suspects: Connor and Leon, with the back-up in goal.
As for the Red Wings, their broadcasters lamented a game that got away as the team continues to try to return to the glory days.
I love books, and I love stories. And sports provides the best stories of ‘em all.
