Commentary: I Don’t Get It

A coupla three or more thoughts heading into the weekend:

#1 – I find myself in times of trouble – like when I realllly can’t decide which winners to pick – turning to the oddsmakers.

Usually I can figure it out on my own, but this weekend’s CFL Division Finals are just too close to call!

So with all these media outlets asking for my picks, I’ll go with what the betting sites say – the home teams, Montreal and Winnipeg, will win.

That doesn’t mean I won’t be cheering for Saskatchewan!

Let the best teams win.

#2 – You know me … I take a stance and stick to it. So I still don’t plan to politicize my website, commentary or talk show and am so glad I made that stance during Covid.

And now I see why that was such a good idea. It’s so off-putting! I’m not going to name names but the anti-Trump rhetoric from some really big media names in Canada I’ve looked up to for decades really has me questioning them as people.

Theo Fleury’s allegedly being blackballed from the Hall of Fame because of his anti-Trudeau takes – and media types call him crazy – and then they turn around and say the exact same thing about Trump? I truly don’t get it.

I’ve never seen such a bunch of sore losers in my life!

Oh … and they didn’t even get a vote.

#3 – There are so many things going on in hockey right now that it’s hard to know where to begin. It’s a little odd to me that “fans” don’t seem to realize how ground-breaking Thursday’s news is that the NCAA has officially voted in favour of granting eligibility to major junior players for the first time ever.

Do people not understand? Or do they just not care?

Either way, it’s a discussion that clearly will just stay amongst the hockey folk inside the game.

And #4 – It’s a treat, an honour and a privilege to cover an NHL game and when I do, it gets my undivided attention.

My phone’s blowing up today with friends complaining about the officiating in the Thursday Night NFL game, where the Ravens outlasted the Bengals 35-34. But I was at the Predators & Panthers.

Didn’t see it, kinda glad I didn’t, and definitely know there are better uses of my time than bitching about the refs.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Point #2 It took me close to 50 yrs to figure it out. I strongly encourage people to study the epidemic/pandemic that is malignant and covert narcissism. When online happened the gate swung open. Theo Fleury is a real person. His programs would mandate he conduct himself with honesty in all his affairs and promptly apologize when wrong Jeremy Roenick over Theo Fleury? We are onto something. It’s also rooted in Marxist socialism. When the NDP takes us all to utopia. No worries. Carla Beck is a social worker. She will come up with a program to take care of… Read more »

“When wrong promptly admit it”
It takes time to unravel bias and thought patterns. We evolve. We are meant to test and transform.

Growing up in Saskatchewan. This tommy Douglas b.s. it’s meeting people. Studying organizations and sociology.

The pandemic is mental illness. Primarily narcissism. Malevolent personality disorders. Addictions. These are screwed up predator primates.

It’s all gang related to take a working person’s stuff.

So socialism is for narcissistic sociopaths with God complexes to make themselves virtuous

That’s ndp and democrats south. They invented the swamp. Reward bad behavior and play God.
How noble.

Theo Fleury should have been a first ballot Hall of Fame selection. Shame, shame.

….they took him in the 8th round….if you had a Pats addiction like we did. $12 tickets to watch Fleury, Sakic, Saskatoon wrecking crew, Regina Pats had 3 first round picks – Sillinger, Heward, Haller, Modano up in P.A. Theo Fleury fed them all their lunches and did it with a black eye and hungover to the gills. Stanley Cup Olympic Gold Medal World Junior Gold ….Hockey is the greatest game. It’s run by and inhabited by the largest bunch of mouth breathers you ever imagined. Go listen to Jennifer Botteril tell Kevin Bieksa about why there’s no need for… Read more »

Agreed, the NCAA thing is a big deal. When I was 16/17, I wanted to play D1 hockey in states, so that meant I automatically went to the SJ. I didn’t even give the WHL a chance. In the end, I likely wouldn’t have stuck in the dub anyways, but who knows! Normie Johnston wanted me to play a few games with the pats, but I said no I didn’t want to wreck my eligibility for NCAA. Again, I wasn’t anything special and wouldn’t have stuck in the end anyways, but this gives players more options now.

More options for the players is never a bad thing. It gets a bit more cutthroat with players flexing on teams and leagues if they’re good enough but so be it. Not like the teams weren’t using their position to lean on 16 year olds and their families. We’ve already seen kids moving both directions so there is an appetite for flexibility. The winners in this will be the people who treat kids well. Taken to the extreme, some kid like Sheldon Kennedy maybe says ‘take your threats of a trade to Siberia or sitting my ass on the bench… Read more »

Theo Fleury is an indigenous sex abuse survivor who conquered substance addiction. He also happens to be one of the greatest hockey players who ever lived. Played at the highest level and has an unmatched trophy case. The way so many have turned on him simply for having views that don’t align with leftist is despicable. Hypocrites. The lot of them.
Disagree with his views all you want, but you can’t argue the man is a Canadian hero.
