Commentary: Heads Are Rolling
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: There are some historic things going on, potentially, in the National Hockey League tonight.
The Winnipeg Jets visit the New York Rangers and with a victory at MSG, Winnipeg would become the fastest team to 30 points in NHL history!
That’s the most remarkable, but here in Florida there’s something to watch too. Should the Panthers top New Jersey for an eighth straight win, they’d become just the fourth Stanley Cup champion ever to record an eight-game win streak the following season. (Chicago 2015-16, LA 2014-15 and St. Louis 2019-20 are the others).
The records are falling fast across all sports this year!
Next the great: I’d bet the CFL would love either the host B.C. Lions or the Saskatchewan Roughriders to be in Sunday’s Grey Cup in Vancouver because it’d be great for business.
But don’t sleep on the Toronto-Winnipeg match-up in the 111th Grey Cup at BC Place.
The intrigue of a rematch from two years ago (which Toronto won in Regina) is tantalizing but the story of journeyman back-up Nick Arbuckle leading the Boatmen into this clash against the new Evil Empire – Winnipeg – is tough to ignore as well!
It’s all great. Can you believe the Bombers have opened as 10.5-point favourites at BetMGM?
And finally the ugly: I’m always here for the quirky stats! The Dolphins’ 23-15 win over the L.A. Rams on Monday Night Football saved the Football State from its NFL and big time college teams from going 0-12 on the same weekend for the first time in history.
It also avoided a third straight weekend where all three of Florida’s NFL teams went winless. That would’ve been a first since it became a three NFL team state in 1995.
Still, these are down times for football in the Sunshine State, and heads have already begun to roll.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
