Football season’s almost over – in Canada anyway – and it’s time for the annual headfirst dive into hockey.

In fact once this weekend’s Vanier Cup is over, that’ll be all she wrote for gridiron play in the Great White North, and we’ll turn our attention to the NFL and College Bowl Season and Playoff.

And of course, hockey.

For those who say they won’t pay attention to the NHL till the CFL season is over, well here we are.

And to be honest, you haven’t missed much. There are five Canadian teams in playoff spots as we sit here today: Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.

The Flames are a surprise, but we’re pretty sure that won’t last.

Fun to follow regardless.

Here in Florida both the Panthers and Lightning are in playoff spots as we sit here today and with the last five Stanley Cup Finals being played in the Sunshine State, it remains the place to be for hockey. (As far as I’m concerned anyway).

And as far as the Dub goes, it’s a little stomach-turning to look at the WHL standings and see the Regina Pats and Moose Jaw Warriors taking up the bottom two spots. When’s the last time that happened?

I don’t think I care to remember.

On Wednesday’s RP Show we committed an entire segment to the ongoing NCAA/Junior Hockey wars which seem to be changing by the minute.

It was astounding how many Canadian hockey fans really had no idea what was going on, nor the history. But I was very impressed that they wanted to learn.

But as far as the American hockey fans went, forget about it!

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 4 pm ET on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live)
