Friday Commentary: Play The Kids!

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend, in no particular order:

#1 – The Flames won again. They knocked off the Rangers 3-2 in the Saddledome and are sitting pretty comfortably in a playoff spot as we approach U.S. Thanksgiving.

Their fans are revved and it’s nice to see, even if it’s Year 1 of a rebuild.

It was at his golf tournament this summer when Theo Fleury said the Flames should scrap it all and play the kids. He compared it to the Blue Jays, who did the same thing and became very fun to watch.

The same applies here!

#2 – People really need to get with the times. To put it bluntly, news breaks at the speed of light and it’s rarely ever right.

Case in point: this week’s trade with the Regina Pats involving Tanner Howe. News “outlets” – for lack of a better term – broke the news but got the trade principles wrong.

Others were upset the player found out about the trade on social media.

Newsflash: It’s not 1985 anymore.

If you’re a team or league trying to hold onto news until it suits you to announce it, you’re going to get burned every time.

#3 – The Harbaugh Bowl is the featured game in Week 12 of the NFL season. John Harbaugh’s Baltimore Ravens visit Jim Harbaugh’s Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football and it’s the first time the brothers have met since the 2012 Super Bowl!

You think it’s been a long NFL season?

It’s just getting good now.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
