This weekend was a great remember of why we love sports (And for some, likely why it drives us nuts).

Where to start?

Well the Calgary Flames are a good place to start.

Picked by everyone to miss the playoffs – in fact I had them last – Calgary spent part of the weekend in first place in the Pacific Division.

In fact as the sun comes up today, the Flames begin the week just a point behind Vegas for first at 12-6-3.

They’re doing it with a bunch of guys who aren’t even household names in their house!

One thing we did predict correctly: if Flames coach Ryan Huska and GM Craig Conroy are allowed to do their job, this team will achieve great things.

Voila!

The U.S. Thanksgiving cutoff line is this week (we’ll explain that more later) and fans are getting excited.

Good for Calgary, because it’s been awhile.

And then NFL Sunday provided a bonanza of head-shaking events, not the least of which was the Dallas Cowboys 34-26 win over the Commanders in Washington.

It was the first game in the Super Bowl era to feature two missed converts, two return touchdowns and a blocked punt.

As Cowboys voice Brad Sham said at the game’s conclusion, “this game is drunk!”

It improved the ‘Boys record to 4-7 and they still have a playoff pulse, however us Dallas fans aren’t fooled.

We’re all just waiting for the season to end, and the bomb to go off.

But regardless, the weekend provided more than its fair share of chills and thrills.

Oh and I didn’t even mention college football, where things are getting extra spicy as the regular season winds down.

What a time to be alive.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
