It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: The CFL is doing its best – in most markets – to stay in the news as much as possible, even though the season ended over a week ago with Toronto upsetting Winnipeg in the Grey Cup.

This hasn’t always been the case in the off-season, so bravo. Edmonton and BC are looking for head coaches and the rumour mill is churning overtime. But that pales in comparison to what the quarterback carousel will look like this winter, whatwith Vernon Adams, Tre Ford, McLeod Bethel-Thompson, Nick Arbuckle, and even Bo Levi and Chad Kelly potentially being on the move. Shoot, the Riders’ Trevor Harris could switch teams too.

We’re here for it!

Next the great: Former NHL referee and Regina product Mike Hasenfratz passed away over the weekend and while that’s obviously not great at all, Mike certainly was.

“Hazzy” comes from an age when referees were characters. He played minor hockey in Regina through midget in 80’s, then cut his teeth in the junior loop.

To pay the bills he bartended at Bonzinni’s and even started his own private investigation firm in the 90’s, before it was “a thing”.

We jokingly called him, “Hazzy P.I.” and he smiled wryly.

Hazzy realized a dream of working in the NHL and should be in the next induction class of the Regina Sports Hall of Fame.

He was great.

And lastly, the ugly: Not sure if you’ve noticed but I have – more Canadians than ever before are spending lavishly to take in NFL games down south.

I’m seeing it all over social media; fans whom I’d normally see posting pics from CFL games and even Grey Cup are now opting for sunny locales and the 4-down game.

Tell me you’ve noticed too? Hey – it’s not ugly at all, unless you’re the CFL. But it certainly proves the excuse for low ticket sales being “the economy” as being nothing more than a load of bunk.

These folks have just made a decision to spend their sports entertainment dollar elsewhere.

And you can’t tell people how to spend their money.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

When the Roughriders and CFL ended. That effectively close the books on 42 years. It will always be around in one form or another. With that stated I’m done. The Roughriders and I knew this going back to the old days with Fred Wagman running it. There is a reason it’s 4 Grey Cups in over 110 years. It was at one time the thing that united the Province. The Riders season ends. Winter hits. It’s wait until next year. It had nothing to do with championships or winning. The CFL along with the Roughriders became this woke D.E.I open… Read more »

As usual your comments are disgusting. You’ve upped your game by wanting to see Canada crushed into poverty with this commentary. Once again you devolve into tasteless rants, but for some reason Rod let’s you have your say on this platform. He won’t print this comment of mine because for some reason, I am out of line. Or he might, along with a comment such as, look what I have to put up with. I don’t understand why your hate filled rhetoric is constantly being posted. Let us see if my response is posted.
