Wednesday Commentary: Canada’s Team?
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday on the RP Commentary! Let’s get going …
#1 – Of the 15 games tonight in the NHL, it feels like the majority of the focus will be here in Sunrise as the Panthers host the Toronto Maple Leafs on national TV across Canada (Sportsnet).
The Stanley Cup champion Panthers have lost four in a row – in fact six of their last seven – while the Leafs may well be welcoming back captain Auston Matthews to the lineup after a two weeks-plus injury absence.
What a thrill to be in the heart of it all!
#2 – It seems it’s en vogue to bash the Calgary Stampeders these days – if you’re one of their former players anyway – but in one fell swoop on Tuesday, they bit back.
The Stamps acquired veteran quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. from the BC Lions and immediately made themselves a contender in the CFL West in 2025.
Rightly or wrongly, the Lions have placed all their eggs in Nathan Rourke’s basket and therefore V.A. was shown the door.
It’s a cruel business.
One CFL insider says Lions owner Amar Doman is the one pulling all these strings at BC Place, but I’m not sure I believe it.
But it’s his team, so he has the right.
As for V.A., he sent us a nice note thanking him for all the support.
They don’t forget.
#3 – How closely are you following the College Football Playoff rankings? I’m sure you are in some way, because they’re hard to miss (even in Canada). They’re impossible to miss, living in America.
Canadian Kurtis Rourke’s Indiana Hoosiers are ranked 10th and they’re going to be Canada’s Team over the next two months.
I’ve habitually been an Alabama fan but as of last night, the Crimson Tide was ranked 13th. Only the Top 12 will make the College Football Playoffs! It’s exciting.
And #4 – Canadians are lucky in that we get to celebrate two Thanksgivings, if you’re so inclined.
And the highlight of “Yanksgiving” on Thursday is the traditional three game NFL slate featuring the Bears at Lions, Giants at Cowboys, and then the real prize, the Dolphins at Packers.
Plenty to be thankful for indeed!
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

#2 Stampeders; Where there’s smoke there’s generally fire. Those departed players might be right.
VA is due a bonus in February but in coach/GM Dickensen’s first interview after the trade he said (I’m paraphrasing) “VA is a team player, I’m pretty sure he’ll renegotiate his contract”.
