(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)

It’s Thursday and time for some random thoughts. Let’s see what we have …

#1 – Canada, USA, Sweden and Finland have announced their rosters for February’s Four Nations Faceoff tournament and they should make for an exciting event.

But it seems to me Canada may regret not including Jordan Eberle and Connor Bedard – two former Regina Pats who’ve proven to be big-game players in tournaments for Canada in the past.

However if you’ve noticed, the Panthers, Lightning and Golden Knights dominate with players across the four teams.

All winners.

#2 – What do they call it? A working vacation? This has been a blast hosting the RP Show from Music City, USA all week but also getting to see the sights and sounds I’ve never been able to before.

Wednesday night it was the Grand Ole Opry’s Country Christmas Show, hosted by Larry Gatlin and featuring the Oak Ridge Boys singing Christmas carols.

Did you know the Opry is the world’s longest-running live radio show (on 650 WSM) and will be celebrating 100 years in 2025?

We’ll be coming back for it.

And #3 – Is this it for CFL news now? The BC Lions seemed to put a cap on it Wednesday with the naming of Buck Pierce as their new head coach. Of course we’ll have the announcement of his staff upcoming, and the Edmonton Elks are doing the same under new head coach Mark Kilam.

But CFL fans are brimming with the infusion of new blood in the league’s coaching ranks, like Corey Mace in Saskatchewan, Ryan Dinwiddie in Toronto, and of course Pierce and Kilam.

Every dog has its day, as they say. But eventually it comes to an end.

And it sure seems like it’s the dawn of a new era in the CFL.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily at 12 pm & 4 pm ET on Game+TV, Podcast & YouTube Live)

The kids won’t know but the Oakridge boys lead singer passed away – joe Bonsall. They miss that voice. The deep voice guy did so many backup and gospel vocals with Elvis.

Did the milenials/Gen z get triggered when they dropped the lyric “an u wall by/an ya shake that thing/and u know/I ain’t that strong”

They are are right “trying to love women/is hard just one man”

They were the original gangstas

4 Nations Cup…pfft. This isn’t exactly the 1987 and 2002 Canada Team. To Conor Bedard and Mark Schiefle – consider themselves fortunate to not be on this. This is not a best/best tournament. This is nothing more/nothing less that a money grab and using the athletes as “useful idiots”. Russia isn’t there it’s not an actually best of the best. It’s a virtue signal for the last gasp of an era we will look back on and shake our collective heads on how we ever let it get this far. Jordan Peterson has a reading list. Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Notes from… Read more »

Nobody forcing you to stay here. Buy a ticket and hop on a flight, when you hit the ground ask for rifle and say you’re here to help.

Point#3 – Another great hire in the CFL with Pierce in BC. It’s time the “Best before date” US coaches move on. It would have been a giant step backwards to revive some of these guys over and over again. Campbell , Dickensons’ La Police, on and on have all had their day. Much like Bob Hughes would say,” it would be like rearranging the deck chairs on the
Titanic.
Pierce will make the difference with Rourke, much as he did with Colaros.
