A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend:

#1 – The slogan “No lead is safe” came from the CFL, but it applies to lots of leagues these days.

Especially the NFL. In an intriguing Thursday Nighter, the L.A. Chargers outscored the visiting Denver Broncos 21-6 in the second half, and went on to win 34-27 to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Sean Payton’s Broncos will have to wait another week to clinch a playoff berth. Meanwhile the Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh may went to clear off some space on his mantle for the NFL Coach of the Year Award.

#2 – Things are bubbling under the surface in the CFL. Chris Jones appears out of a job after the Hamilton Tiger-Cats hired Brent Monson as their Defensive Coordinator; a title Jones held last season.

Meanwhile fans were/are hoping for the 2025 schedule ahead of Christmas but there seems to be a delay.

But that’s not to say they’re sitting on their hands in the League office. In fact senior writer Chris O’Leary announced on his Twitter that he was abruptly let go this week.

What a Christmas gift!

#3 – With so much going on in sports right now, at this very moment, my attention hadn’t yet drifted to the upcoming World Juniors but I’ll admit to getting tingles when former Moose Jaw Warrior – and current Lethbridge Hurricane – Brayden Yager was named team captain on Thursday. Then Canada went out and spanked Switzerland 7-1 in Ottawa.

It’s beginning to look a lot like World Juniors.

And #4 – Speaking of what’s going on right now … College Football’s largest-ever playoff tournament kicks off tonight with Kurtis Rourke and his Indiana Hoosiers at Notre Dame. The Cure Bowl and Gasparilla Bowl will be played tonight too.

Christmas indeed, for sports fans.
