Commentary: Says Who?

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend:
#1 – And it all turned out nice again.
Connor McDavid scored at 8:18 of overtime giving Canada a 3-2 victory over USA in the final of the Four Nations Faceoff in Boston.
They say it may have been the biggest game ever watched and we’ll know before long if that’s true, once the ratings come out.
But for a country who could use some good news, this was it. And Canada remains the world’s hockey super power; at least until next year’s Olympics.
#2 – Caught up in the wash was the news that Major League Baseball debuted the use of robotic umpires in Thursday’s spring training games. (i.e. computerized balls and strikes)
Once the euphoria over the hockey final dies down, we can debate this more.
I’m all for robotic umpires if it means the end of the endless complaining of managers, players and fans.
I guess I never thought about all the umps that would lose their jobs in this scenario, but you can bet they’ve never thought about us, the broadcasters.
All in all, we’ll simply have to wait to see how this unfolds.
I wish I had more faith that they’re going to get it right.
And #3 – Not to be outdone, the NFL announced a salary cap boost of around $26-million for the upcoming season. This comes on the heels of the CFL announcing a nearly 10% boost in their cap for 2025.
