Friday Commentary: “Not yet”

A coupla three or more thoughts heading into the weekend …
#1 – How about those Edmonton Oilers? Connor & Leon combined on the OT winner and the Oil rode out of Vegas with a 2-0 series lead in their Round 2 Stanley Cup Playoff series. 5-4 was the score on Thursday.
A record six straight comeback wins in these playoffs and goalie Calvin Pickard is literally playing like Grant Fuhr.
I’ve written down the names of every single person who wrote them off last series against LA.
#2 – It’s the Leafs and the Panthers tonight at Amerant Bank Arena and the game’s been on my mind since I woke up this morning. The Leafs hold a 2-0 series edge but there’s been no better home team since 2023 in the NHL Playoffs than Florida. I’ll be at the game and can’t wait. Want a prediction?
Forget it.
#3 – Funny the things that happen, when you don’t take anything for granted. For instance, I bumped into my gym buddy Joe Girardi on Thursday – a 4-time World Series champion with the Yankees – and asked him if the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani is the greatest Major Leaguer ever given his heroic feats, towering home runs and whopping $70M salary.
Joe’s reply: “Not yet”.
Tough to please! That’s the way it should be.
#4 – We wind it up with football where it’ll be a big football day on The RP Show (Noon ET on Game+ TV). We’ll be joined by our old buddy Paul LaPolice, who was named Canada’s Men’s Flag Football coach on Thursday ahead of the 2028 LA Olympics. What an honour for him! We’ll also be joined by new Ticats Voice Rick Zamperin.
LaPo quickly texted once he learned that yours truly is the Voice of USA Flag Football and said we have lots to talk about and catch up upon. I said, “Let’s do it on air.”
Everybody’s finally starting to catch up. It’s been a long, but fun wait.

Choice stuff; #3) – Joe Girardi is solid. 4X W.S Champion as a Catcher, and 1 W.S as a Manager. This was also the guy that lost a crappy Florida Marlins job when he told the Owner to keep his mouth shut. The stadium was so empty of course everyone heard and that was that. This era of baseball – if you can hit a MLB baseball it’s no easy feat. He’s not anywhere in the conversation of Barry Bonds – nor will he be. BB – Pirates would have made him a HOF’er.
