Saturday CFL Preseason Round-Up

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 15-9 in CFL pre-season action on Saturday. 

Sergio Castillo booted five field goals for the Blue Bombers at Princess Auto Stadium, as Winnipeg led 3-0, 9-3 and 9-6 by quarter.

Saskatchewan used all four quarterbacks: Trevor Harris (3/8, 38 yards), Jake Maier (8/13, 80 yards), Tommy Stevens (2/3, 21 yards), and Jack Coan (3/6, 58 yards).

Thomas Bertrand-Hudon led all rushers (6 carries, 48 yards) while Brayden Misseri was the top receiver (3 receptions, 51 yards). Brett Lauther was 2/3 on field goals while Brian Garrity was 1/2. On defense, Marcus Sayles, Roland Milligan and Jaxon Ford each had four tackles. Sayles registered one of three Rider sacks, while Saskatchewan didn’t allow any.

On Winnipeg’s side, QB Zach Collaros was 10/13 for 93 yards while Chris Streveler was 6/10 for 49 yards. Back-ups Terry Wilson and Chase Artopoeus also saw action.

In the other early game, the Ottawa Redblacks earned a 23-7 road victory over the Montreal Alouettes. 

The Redblacks pulled away with a 17-point third quarter.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats scored 10 points in the final quarter and defeated the visiting Toronto Argonauts 24-16. Marc Liegghio had three field goals for the Tabbies, who got touchdowns from Treshaun Ward and Johnny Augustine.

Toronto, which trailed 6-0 at halftime, got a touchdown from receiver Jake Herslow and running back Miyan Williams, and a field goal from Alfredo Gachuz Lozada.

In Calgary, the Stampeders built up a 21-1 lead at halftime and then coasted to a 31-4 win over the visiting Edmonton Elks.

Stampeders’ quarterback Phillip Walker Junior threw for 138 yards and one touchdown as the hosts jumped out to a 15-1 first-quarter lead and never looked back. Logan Bonner scored two touchdowns on the ground, while receiver Daylen Baldwin had one touchdown reception.

Veteran kicker Rene Paredes went 3-for-3 in field goal attempts, including one from 52 yards.

Vincent Blanchard had a 40-yard field goal for the Elks.

The regular season kicks off June 5.
