Commentary: Can’t Fight City Hall

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: The NHL announced the first six players for a handful of teams competing in next February’s Winter Olympics in Italy. In Canada, it was the usual suspects: McDavid, Crosby, MacKinnon, Makar, Reinhart & Point. Team USA was no surprise either, and it included the Tkachuk brothers and Auston Matthews. Interestingly no goalies were announced.
I saw a lot of people bemoaning the fact this is another hockey announcement in JUNE! My advice if you don’t like it:
Move. It’s Canada, and hockey is by far and away #1.
Next the great: There’s lots of exciting things going on in the CFL, if you’ve paid attention. The Riders, Stampeders and Bombers are unbeaten atop the Western standings and the Riders head into Toronto in Week 3.
It remains wiiiiiiiiide open and it’s fun to see which games the pundits and fans believe are Grey Cup previews.
Speaking of Grey Cup, country star Brad Paisley was announced for the entertainment lineup at the 112th Grey Cup Festival in Winnipeg.
Will this year’s Grey Cup beat last year’s best-ever in Vancouver?
Stay tuned …
And finally the ugly: Several Rider fans have written into the RP Show saying their staying away from Rider games due to the club’s vaccination policy back in 2021.
Holy smokes! Far be it for me to defend the Riders but I was side-by-side with government officials at the time and can tell you the Riders fought that policy tooth and nail. If you recall, they were very last CFL team to institute the policy but had to cave to government pressure, just like every other sports team.
You’ve got it wrong.
But one thing I’ve learned about people around here – the hard, painful way – is that you’re not ever going to change their minds.

Around here. It’s what J.D Vance wrote in his autobiography. Rural ohio/Kentucky opioid, poverty, etc.
These people are the definition of learned helplessness. If they are not oppressed or a victim there is no purpose for them to wake up. Eventually they dont.
Sad waste of potential
Our group. Winners willing to fight for the next inch.
Not very far away (North Dakota) people werern’t locked out of anything. Did they all die? No!
Blame the government, not the Riders. That’s my point. Don’t twist it.
You can blame the govt, but you can also control the decision you make. I was given the choice to take the shot or be put on unpaid leave. Lots of people at my work said I have no choice, I have to take it. I get it, the govt put us in a corner and it was criminal in my opinion, but I chose to not take it and I was put on leave. The lost salary sucked, but I don’t regret it. The riders could’ve done the same thing. There would’ve been consequences for sure, but when you… Read more »
Ok you win stay away from the games.
