Monday Commentary: Let’s Do It Again

On Mondays we recap the weekend, and look ahead to what we expect will be a great week …
It’s summer in Canada, so naturally my focus was on the Canadian Football League and fortunately I was able to watch three of the four games.
The best game? That’s debatable. None were particularly close. But the Riders looked very efficient in their 37-18 dismantling of the BC Lions at Mosaic Stadium.
And just when you got all lathered up for the Green & White, they’re on a Week 5 bye.
Oh wait … I know the highlight of the weekend! It was Mark Chesnutt’s performance at the Temple Gardens Centre in Moose Jaw!
As a former country music deejay myself, and fan of Texas honkytonk, it was definitely one of the best nights I can remember for quite a while.
And shockingly, I’d never seen Chesnutt before. He didn’t disappoint. Another stroke off the Bucket List.
And now we look ahead. It’s like Christmas for NHL fans, as Free Agent Frenzy hits tomorrow.
You know what? For years while working in the CFL, I found the July 1 player derby in the NHL particularly annoying. “Can’t you go away for awhile?”
But now, covering the Panthers & Lightning for our Florida show, plus the mushrooming viewers of the RP Show who love hockey, I’m getting a tingle just like millions of others.
We’ll have fun kicking that around today on the RP Show.

We’ve got a Canada Day clash here in Moose Jaw as the Swift Current 57’s come to town for a 6 pm clash with the Miller Express.
It was this time last year that attendance took off and the ballparks across the prairies were sold-out every night.
