Commentary: Nothin’ But A Good Time

Don’t look now, but this is turning into a fantastic summer!
Did you catch the Blue Jays last night? Canada’s Team had a 7-0 lead over the Yankees after the first inning, but had to break open a 9-9 deadlock with two runs in the eighth, and then held on to beat the Yankees 11-9. That pulled them even with New York for first-place in the AL East.
A win tonight in the series finale would give the Jays the sweep, and sole possession of first place.
As Mel Allen would say, “How bout that!” (Look it up)
And then of course, there’s the CFL.
The Jolly Green Giants have the week off but that shouldn’t deter you from tuning into at least some of the games, including tonight’s first-ever Stampede Bowl featuring the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Calgary Stampeders to kickoff Calgary Stampede festivities.
The clash of the 3-0 Bombers against the 2-1 Stampeders was voted Canada’s Game of the Week by RP Show viewers.
Of course I’ll be watching!
But I’ll be scratching my head too. Despite our rivalry, I’ve always had close ties to the Stampeders organization – and Calgary overall – and they always said the football team would never play at home during the Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth.
In fact they went out of their way over the years to schedule a bye, or a two-game trip in Eastern Canada.
Now this.
I guess it’s just proof that things change, or you can’t stop progress, or whatever you wanna call it.
It doesn’t hurt that Bret Michaels of the band Poison will be throwing a concert at the game too! That’s already causing flashbacks of great times on Electric Avenue and Curly’s during my college days in the Stampede City.
But there are some other great games too — Hamilton at Toronto on Friday, BC at Montreal on Saturday, and Ottawa at Edmonton on Sunday.
What a wonderful summer indeed …
