Commentary: Take The Stairs

It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday! Here we go …
#1 – Baseball is top-of-mind for me. I missed all of Tuesday night’s MLB All Star Game cuz we were playing baseball in Moose Jaw in the WCBL! The Weyburn Beavers beat our Miller Express 5-4 in 10 innings and nobody left the ballpark in a thriller.
The Medicine Hat Mavericks come to town Wednesday and Thursday night with a 7:05 pm first pitch both nights. It’s been so much fun!
#2 – World Series champion and Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer Matt Stairs is the hitting consultant for the WCBL’s Okotoks Dawgs and he joined the RP Show to preview Saturday’s All Star Game in Okotoks and chat ball.
He admitted to not watching the MLB Homerun Derby because “they’ve” ruined it.
The chat was a treat otherwise and to summarize, Matt is not a fan of using robotic umpires, nor really is he a fan of putting a man on second base to start extra innings. However he is a fan of the 12-second pitch clock to speed up games.
I guess it allllll comes down to personal preference and the New Brunswick product admitted that even though he’s old school, he probably should get with the times or get left behind.
I’ve heard that somewhere before?
#3 – Of course our gaze has drifted over to the CFL and it sure didn’t take long for the Rider Nation to get quiet! After absorbing their first loss of the season – 24-10 to Calgary on Saturday – I’m not hearing much chatter.
Or is it just me? I don’t need to look at the schedule to tell you Canada’s Game of the Week … it’s Sask at BC on Saturday.
And #4 – The NHL made the news this week with the schedule dropping, some coaching moves in Edmonton and some player signings. Some hockey friends lit up my phone looking for a reaction but I largely had none.
