Commentary: The Good, The Great & The Ugly

It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: It’s been a very fun opening third of the CFL season. Saskatchewan and Calgary are on top of the league at 5-1 while Hamilton’s close behind at 4-2. It’s been a tickling debate over, “Who’s the best team in the CFL?” And it’s caused a tidal wave of discussion on our social media pages.
The fact is — it’s Calgary, since they manhandled the Riders 24-10 in the Smoke Bowl but good luck getting anybody around here to admit to that.
Next the great: It’s obviously the Toronto Blue Jays! We’re witnessing baseball at its best; including Monday night’s 4-1 victory over the New York Yankees. The scenes coming out of Roger Centre are astounding and the Jays sport the best home record in the majors. Tonight they go for a club record 12th straight home victory.
The Jays have discovered the best way to spell marketing: W-I-N.
And finally the ugly: An RP Show viewer wrote in recently and asked why I have so much disdain for Jerry Jones, given the fact I’m a staunch Dallas Cowboys fan. I guess, judging by this guy’s question, that we’re supposed to automatically go along with everything our favorite team does?
Sorry — I can’t do that.
And when Cowboys training camp opened in Oxnard, CA on Monday, there was Jerry Jones again, addressing the media. The nameplate in front of him said: Jerry Jones, Owner, President & GM.
In short, God of Texas football.
God of the team that has the longest Conference championship game appearance drought in the NFC.
The guy who let contract dealings last year go right down to the last minute with stars CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. Now he’s doing the same thing with star linebacker Micah Parsons.
Jerry pleaded with the media yesterday that he’s given “so friggin’ much” to the team over the past 35 years.
I’d ask Jerry the same thing he’s asked his players and staff over the past 29 years of a revolving door:
“What have you done for me lately?”

Speaking of disdain, many fans have tuned out the roughriders because of 2 individuals running the team operations. People are not buying what the team president and a very long in the tooth gm have not produced, a gc championship team, this is a major reason for why the stands are empty in regina as fans are are reading between the lines their team management only about the money. If the roughriders don’t produce a gc championship 2025 then a major organization change must be made.
