Commentary: Figure It Out

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday. Are you ready?
#1 – Nobody said this Blue Jays ride was going to be easy. Last nite Jays reliever Jeff Hoffman registered his seventh blown save of the season as the Minnesota Twins rallied with four runs in the ninth inning for a 7-5 victory at Rogers Centre.
Now the fans and pundits are howling that the Blue Jays don’t have a quality-enough bullpen to take them all the way.
It says here the Trade Deadline is over boys. What you have is what you have. Figure it out.
#2 – One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The NFL is in its final cutdown period with the preseason now behind us and the regular season kicking off next Thursday in Philly with the Cowboys at the Eagles. (Join us at PumpJacks Cathedral in Regina for our NFL Kickoff Party)
Two big names with CFL ties were released or waived on Tuesday – quarterback Taylor Elgersma in Green Bay and receiver Ajou Ajou in Indianapolis. The Bombers have Elgersma’s rights while Ajou spent last season with the Riders.
Do they come to Canada? Time will tell but it’s SUCH a relief that it’s not my job anymore to sit at my computer hitting “refresh” every 60 seconds these days.
#3 – What is my job is to talk sports for a couple of hours everyday and previewing this weekend’s Labour Day rivalry games is a real treat. When you think about it, whether those NFL cuts come northward or not has nothing to do with how this weekend’s CFL games will play out.
Although it’s fun to remember years past when certain situations like this were a 5-alarm fire. Like 2011 when Andy Fantuz was cut by the Chicago Bears on the Friday and suited up for the Riders on the Sunday – violating league rules – but that’s because Commissioner Mark Cohon was a closet Rider fan, sending Bomber coach Paul LaPolice over the edge.
Oh … the tales we can tell.

Toronto Blue Jays, Hoffman not a good look on the Club, Jays management is going to have to dig deep immediately on the farm to find his replacement.
Mark Cohon a Nimrod.
I just don’t follow the BJs philosophy of get 2 strikes on them and then go to nibbling hoping for a swing. Too many times 0-2 ends up a walk.
Mark Cohon may have been a closet Rider fan but Randy Ambrosie was an anti-Rider hater all the way and proud of it!
Randy Ambrosie the man, 100%.
#3 – I realize that I may be seen as a “Negative Nancy”, but having the Roughriders violated the league rules in 2011 is a classic example of why the CFL struggles to gain credibility. Commissioner Cohon looking the other way when Fantuz came back shows how certain organizations hold favor in the eyes of the league more than other organizations. I think balancing the interests of privately owned teams vs publicly owned teams is where the CFL runs into trouble. Great column!
Every league is like that.
110% agreed.
