Friday Commentary: You Gotta Go

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or more thoughts entering the long weekend …
#1 – Sunday marks the 61st Labour Day Classic in the CFL featuring the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Riders have won 38 of them but believe it or not, the Bombers have won three of the last four including a 35-33 victory last year! Saskatchewan is favored by 6-points in this one but as ESPN College Game Day analyst Lee Corso famously says, “Not so fast, my friend!”
Global Winnipeg had me on Thursday to discuss the rivalry and go over all the games over the years. It’s an honour to be asked and fun to talk about.
#2 – To be frank, the NFL season hasn’t even kicked off yet but they’re the ones dominating the discussion in football and that includes Thursday’s bombshell that the Dallas Cowboys have traded star rush end Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Backers for D-Tackle Kenny Clark and two first round picks.
It’s too early to say who won the deal but judging by the smiles on the faces of Packers brass and fans, I’d say it’s Green Bay.
And Micah proved what happens once you stand up to a guy like Jerry Jones:
You gotta go.
#3 – Amid much less fanfare, junior hockey teams have opened training camps around here and are announcing details of their intrasquad games this weekend. Only the hardcore fans show up to those, but boy do they love their teams.
Meanwhile I’m fascinated by the coverage out of Team Canada’s Olympic hockey camp in Calgary where Mitch Marner revealed the abuse he took from Leaf fans after last year’s playoffs. He’s much better off in Vegas.
And Connor McDavid is coy on his plans as his contract is set to expire after this season in Edmonton and he stands to become the richest player in the game.
They haven’t even dropped the puck yet, but I have an inkling what the top story’s going to be in the NHL all season long.
Have a great weekend!

Above picture cap to this article; That’s a very handsome stadium, plus you can see the Empire Hotel in the background.
The coldest beer in town.
What happened to Parsons when he stood up against Jerry Jones? Tough lesson he was taught, an extra 7 million a year from what jones was reportedly offering.
honestly at this point what you don’t know would fill a book.
…..Jerry knows precisely who and what he’s dealing with. He has no interest in being Al Davis.
This guy got an extra $7M?…… Jerry doesn’t pay it and Green Bay is going to find out fast what these people really are like.
Michael “Paper Chaser” Parsons is gonna lay on down NBA style.
Oh the personal insult ouch!! I doubt you have a fraction of this bravado in your life…. What these people are made of? Fill me in. Parsons didn’t get where he was by being a coward in life, and he knew what he was worth. He stood up to jones and got his. Take shots at “paper chaser” all you want but he’s worth at least 120 million doing something you couldn’t do. Time will tell everything and I do view this trade in a way a win for all parties, the cowboys salary cap structure wouldn’t really allow for… Read more »
