It’s Random Thought Wednesday! Lots to discuss …

#1 – For hockey lovers like me, it’s a great time of year. Just not the most wonderful. The preseason is well underway and there were 11 games Tuesday night. Scoresheet watching is a thrill, like the fact Connor Bedard scored once in Chicago’s 3-2 loss to Detroit. In Winnipeg, Jonathan Toews played nearly 20 minutes in his Jets debut and was minus-1. Winnipeg lost 3-2 to the Oilers.

There’s something to watch for in every game.

#2 – We’re a long ways away from the dust settling on the CFL rule and field changes announced on Monday.

My biggest takeaway? I’m astounded by all the bickering, name-calling and toxicity which has been lobbed back and forth by those on both sides of the issue. Fans, media and players alike.

The ability to debate an issue as mature adults seems to be a thing of the past, especially in the CFL.

I guess it’s not surprising. And I certainly don’t miss it.

#3 – We’re headed into Week 4 of the NFL season and speaking of things that aren’t a surprise, the 3-0 Philadelphia Eagles remain the #1 team in the Power Rankings. The reigning Super Bowl champs are a tough out.

Meanwhile the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins have slipped to the Bottom 5 of the rankings. Unfortunately, no surprise there either!

And #4 – The countdown is on to the MLB postseason, but it feels like there’s a million miles to go. The Jays lost 4-1 at home to Boston on Tuesday and their lead atop the AL East is down to one. Their magic number to clinch the pennant remains four, even though they clinched a playoff spot on Sunday.

The good news? Jays playoff tickets go on sale on Thursday. The bad news? The roller coaster of anxiety for Jays fans is still reaching the top.
