10 Monday Things For SUDS Car Wash

TRUTH & RUMOURS FOR SUDS CAR WASH
1 – OFF TO TINSELTOWN: The LA Dodgers quieted the crowd of 44,607 at Rogers Centre on Saturday night, beating the Blue Jays 5-1 to tie up the World Series at 1-1. The series now shifts to Dodger Stadium for Games 3, 4 & 5 beginning Monday. LA’s Yoshinobu Yamamoto got the complete game victory in Game 2, becoming the first big league pitcher to record back-to-back C.G. wins since Curt Schilling notched three in a row for Arizona back in 2001. Hard to fault Toronto’s Kevin Gausman, who went toe-to-toe with Yamamoto till giving up a pair of Dodger homeruns in the seventh inning. Now it’s Max Scherzer versus Tyler Glasnow in Game 3. What a series!
2 – CFL: The 2025 regular season concluded this weekend, but not without some controversy. The BC Lions knocked off Saskatchewan 27-21 on Saturday to clinch second place and homefield next weekend in the Western Semifinal but the Riders and their fans feel jobbed by a call reversal in the third quarter which they feel cost them the game. A scoop & score by Sask’s Tevaughn Campbell would’ve given the Riders a 25-13 lead but the play was called back by the Command Centre because replay officials deemed the play had been blown dead. Sorry to say, but chalk this one up to a difference of opinion. There were 25 minutes left in the game in which to decide the outcome. There certainly was no “favouritism” or skullduggery in this call reversal. All I can say is, thank God it didn’t happen in a playoff game or the Grey Cup. The Riders finished 12-6, one off my preseason prediction of 13 wins.
3 – THE REST: Hamilton clinched first place in the East Division with a 35-15 win over Ottawa on Friday and Ticats QB Bo Levi Mitchell led the league in passing at age 35. It’ll be between Bo and BC’s Nathan Rourke for the league’s Most Outstanding Player Award. My vote would be for Bo, despite Rourke leading the Lions into the playoffs on a six-game win streak. … That Command Centre call *could* have cost the Calgary Stampeders “X” amount of dollars because at 11-7, they finished tied with BC for second place and lost out on hosting the Western Semifinal due to losing the season series with the Lions. Still, it’s quite a turnaround for the Horsemen who posted a CFL-worst five wins in 2024. If the CFL had a GM of the Year Award, it would go to Calgary’s Dave Dickenson this year. Why don’t they have a GM of the Year Award?
4 – MORE CFL: Ottawa finished a league-worst 4-14 and it cost head coach Bob Dyce his job. Names are already bubbling in the rumour mill over who will takeover and they include Rick Campbell, who’s already on staff, or franchise great Henry Burris. I’d have to ask Hank about that one because he’s thriving as O.C. and Associate Head Coach at Florida A&M and is part of a large group of former CFL’ers loving life in the NCAA including Geroy Simon (Maryland), Kerry Joseph (Texas), Kent Austin (Auburn) and Jeff Reinebold (Hawaii). The salaries there are whopping, however Burris may want the opportunity to run his own show. … Tough to convince the Edmonton Elks and their fans of this but they overachieved this season, IMHO, at 7-11. I had them pegged for five wins. Western teams better enjoy the Elks on the bottom now because this was the last year of that. They’ve hit rock bottom and are well on their way up. … The Winnipeg Blue Bombers meanwhile, are clearly on the way down after going 9-9 and failing to host a home playoff game for the first time since 2019. They finished fourth and are on their way to Montreal to visit the Alouettes in next weekend’s Eastern Semifinal in the crossover. … The Bombers announced this weekend that they sold out their entire regular season in 2025 but there are some critics saying thousands of those tickets were giveaways. Honestly, I don’t care. If they can look in the mirror, great. In Saskatchewan, we soldout the entire season in 2007, plus preseason, and those ticket sales were legit. … Don’t forget our stadium capacity was 28,800 while Winnipeg’s is 33,500. Quite a difference.
5 – NHL NOTES: Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov hit 1,000 career points in game #809 on Saturday. Only Connor McDavid (659) and Sidney Crosby (757) have done it faster among active players. He’s also the sixth Russian player to hit 1,000 points. … Calgary Flames fans are despising the fact that there is a draft lottery. They are an NHL-worst 1-7-1 and the outlook is bleak. … I’m prepared to eat some crow on saying the Chicago Blackhawks are “worse than last year”. At 4-2-2, they are 12th overall in the NHL. A reminder, we’re not even 10 games in. … Nashville is 4-3-2, owners of the final wildcard spot in the West, and rumoured to be looking to move on from Steven Stamkos. “Coaching is not the problem there,” advised one hockey man Saturday in the press box in Sunrise, as the Panthers were shutting out the Golden Knights 3-0. … The highlight of the weekend was seeing all my Golden Knights friends, whom are enjoying the Rod Pedersen Show daily on the Silver State Sports & Entertainment Network/Fox 5 Vegas! It’s been a long road, but golly it’s sure worth it. Thanks to Joe Gunnis and Cory Karlick on the RP Show team for making this all happen.
6 – MORE NHL NOTES: Boston Bruins fans are wondering why they had to move on from Brad Marchand when Pittsburgh hasn’t moved on from Crosby & Malkin? Great question. But there’s more than one way to skin a cat. … Remember too, that Malkin is in the final year of his deal and has been informed he won’t be offered an extension. He has a home in South Florida. … The rumour mill suggests #1 picks Macklin Celebrini and Matthew Schaeffer may be in line to play for Canada at the Olympics. Pump the brakes! I’m not even sure #1 pick Connor Bedard will be on the team. … Sergei Bobrovsky is the best goalie in the world and in the last year of his 7-year/$70-million deal. Will he stay in Florida? Insiders feel he could fetch more elsewhere. As he told us Saturday night after his 50th career shuttie, “I love it here”.
7 – DUB HUB: Congrats to Mark O’Leary for setting the Moose Jaw Warriors games coached record on Friday, at 361. The Warriors beat Lethbridge 4-2 in the Remple Temple in that game. … Here’s a stat for ya: Former Swift Current/Lethbridge Bronco Bryan Trottier is the only Dub grad to score 1,000 points with a single NHL head coach (Al Arbour, NY Islanders). … Former P.A. Raider Rich Pilon has some company as the only NY Islander to notch multiple points (two assists) in his first NHL game. Marshall Warren did it Saturday night in the Isles’ 4-3 loss at Philadelphia. …. I asked Golden Knights TV commentator Shane Hnidy Saturday night how it felt to interview his old Swift Current coach Todd McLellan in Detroit this week on the NHL On TNT. “I never played for Todd,” Shane corrected. “I played for Graham James.” The conversation fizzled from there.
8 – NFL WEEK 8: The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots each ran their winning streaks to six games on Sunday. The Broncos lead the NFL in sacks (35). … The Indianapolis Colts won their fourth in a row and are off to a 7-1 start. It’s their best start since going 14-0 in 2009. … The New York Jets (1-7) finally won their first game and were one of three teams to get a win in Week 8, after coming in with 1 or fewer wins. Miami and Baltimore are the others. … The Ravens’ Derrick Henry had two rushing TDs which gives him 112 on his career, and moves him past Walter Payton (110) for the 5th-most rushing TDs in NFL history.
9 – NBA GAMBLING CONTROVERSY: As usual, I see things differently than everyone else and that’s why you’re here every week. Case in point; every sportstalk show under the sun this week agreed that the gambling controversy involving Trailblazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Heat guard Terry Rozier makes the NBA look bad. They were arrested and charged by the FBI on Thursday and FYI, those boys never get it wrong. My question is, how does it make the NBA look bad? it’s impossible for the teams and leagues to keep an eye on their personnel 24/7. Similarly, I didn’t think it made the U of R Rams look bad several months ago when two of their players were charged with drug trafficking, despite everybody trying to smear the program. Almost a year later, nobody’s talking about it. Beware the media, including those trying to turn the World Series into a Canada vs USA, anti-Trump thing. Gross!
10 – RANDOM THOUGHTS: I’ve cleaned out all my Hallowe’en candy three times and it’s only October 26. WTH? … You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to buy shoelaces. … Do we have proof that it’s bad luck to open an umbrella indoors? I’m afraid to try it. … They laughed at Noah when he was building the ark. … Sometimes less is more. … Spanish police have busted a criminal group dedicated to stealing your seat. Literally. Spain’s National Police said this week that they had arrested seven people suspected of stealing more than 1,100 chairs from outdoor seating areas at restaurants and bars in Madrid and another nearby municipality in just two months. The group of six men and a woman worked at night to pilfer the chairs from 18 different establishments in Madrid and area. The estimated impact of the stolen property was around $69,000US, according to police. … AND HOW WAS YOUR WEEK?
Y’er welcome,
RP

Nobody would show up in Calgary anyway,
Both Calgary Stampeders, British Columbia Lions finished the 2025 Canadian Football League season one game behind the 12-5 Saskatchewan Roughriders at 11-6 followed by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at 9-9 in the win/loss column, thats parity. All teams both CFL East/West Divisions have a legitimate chance at winning the Grey Cup Championship under the right circumstances where everything team wise comes together to get the job done, good luck all.
Winnipeg should accept no advice or criticism from any other team in the league when it comes to promotions or selling tickets. They are a .500 team but their fans still showed up. It turns out they have Thursdays,Fridays, too hot, too cold, rising cost of living/every other excuse in Winnipeg too but their fans show up.
Also not entirely sure you should throw dirt on them this year, they cross over and have probably an easier path to the finals and then who knows in front of a home crowd.
Where are all these free bomber tickets and where do I get some? Haha
